A 3-year-old was kept from enrolling at a religious-based school because he has two fathers, according to a letter sent by the school.

Action 7 News got a copy of the letter that Hope Christian School sent to the family.
It says in part: “Same gender couples are inconsistent with scriptural lifestyle and biblical teachings,” and "Home life doesn't reflect the school's belief of what a biblical family lifestyle is.”

The letter also says since the school is private, it is free from "excessive government interference in matters of religion."

The school will receive more than $60,000 in federal tax dollars this school year. That money will be used for educator professional development, according to the state's Public Education Department.

But judging these parents based on their sexual preference reflects what the Bible says? Nope. Sure one always wants to use the argument that the Bible speaks against homosexuality but what does it also say about loving everyone? About judging? God says come as you are. No, let's ignore all of those. I love my God with all my heart but his people sometimes make me hang my head in shame.

It's private. My question is why the parents would send their kid to a faith based school where he will be taught that his fathers are sinners.

Something doesn't add up with this story.

You did see the word PRIVATE right?

They have the right to decide if the family circumstances fit the standards the school sets. The school is the only one who loses in this. They lose the money from that childs tuition. I have a friend who couldnt get her son into a local private school because she doesnt take him to church. She was mad. I said "Oh well". THEY have the right to decide their members. This is a private group and shouldnt fall under any ones discrimination radar.

I bet ya I am vilified for my comment. And that is cool too. PRIVATE is different from PUBLIC.

Ok, I didnt read the story. I DO have some issues with them receiving public money. :-)

It's technically fair for the school to do that because it's private. What is NOT fair is that your silly government is giving $60 grand to a private school? Why would they do that? The public schools need that money.

The problem is A private and religious school can be selective. The couple should have expected this. They should just try a private school and not religious. They probably should be leary of any religious schoo.

You say it's a religious school, so it is also a private school, and so they may have what rules they may. It's a non issue. They can go to a non-religious school which does accept gays. Problem solved. I'll tell you what though......I'd be perfectly happy if religious schools would stop taking federal tax dollars, or even state dollars, unless the state is supportive of religious freedom. It makes it look bad, and it gives people more ammo for complaining about private policy. I would have picked a little grayer answer. Overall, I think it is fair. Just wish tax dollars weren't involved in any but public schools.

Why would gay parents want to send their child to a school that teaches that the parents are sinners? That said, I think that religious based schools do have the right to decide who they accept and who they don't. It's not a public school that must accept everyone.

I would agree with you if not for the fact that they took federal funds. That means they are not a private institution.
As for why they would want to sent their child to that school? Good question. I sure wouldn't.

I was just reading a piece about a private religious school in New Mexico that rejected a three year old for pre-K because she had two gay fathers.

They said that the family situation did not fit with their religious teachings. The school does receive Federal funds but according to the school, they are within their rights to reject a student whose home situation doesn't reflect their religions values.

The article didn't say if there was any kind of law suit pending but it didn't sound like anyone was questioning the school's action.

Is this the case you are referring to or is it another? I just don't see that there was any resolution to the case yet or even if the parents were taking any legal action.

I wasn't referring to any specific case. I would not argue with this school's decision though. While I may disagree with them personally, it is a private institution and they can accept or deny any student they choose.

I personally think it doesn't matter whether you are gay or straight, I believe everyone should have an equal chance and opportunity for everything. Although I do see why some churches would reject a student with same gender parents. I know that some religions look down on homosexuality.

Since it is recieving money from the government, the family can sue based on discrimination. I would hope though that the couple will choose another school that their child will be accepted and given the change to thrive.

************** MY FAULT I CLICKED ON THE WRONG RESPONSE **************

I believe the school is right " IF THE STUDENT IS GAY, and it being a christian school they have that right to decide

They have established guidelines and if it is contrary to their teaching it effects the rest of the students.

So although my vote says Foul in error....... I STAND WITH THE SCHOOL IF THE STUDENT WHO IS ATTENDING IS GAY.

No and I understood that and explained that. Notice what I said. If the Student was Gay then the school has a right to say no. But not because the Parents is.

Either way, allowing the Student is is an opportunity to witness to the Parents. However, The school has standards that they have set based on the Bible and as such the school has every right to decide.

See I was not aware of that but that gives the federal Government the right to mandate what a Religious school can do? I don't think so because the same school that receives that money also pays taxes as well.

That's like the Federal Government telling a person on welfare, we fund you, we give you a check, we give you food stamps you can't exercise you're Religious rights.

    WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

    both are federally funded right?
