in the Form of a beautiful very well endowed woman it was bait for those who had Evil in thier heart

she is a fearsome expert in the arts of war. It is to her that Cu Chulainn, the greatest of Irish warriors, comes in his youth to learn his craft. This teaching took place in Alba. It was from Scathach that Cu Chulainn received the 'Gae Bolg', his formidable barbed spear (or sword, in some versions) whose thrust was invariably fatal

Celtic King Conchobar
in the king suggested that Cuchulainn should train with the great warrior woman Scathach on her island off the coast of Scotland. that such a skilful youth who won all Games he

Cúchulainn then set off for the island of Scathach

- (the light of the hero) which caused his face to shine like the sun. Taking a great leap called the leap of the salmon, twisting and turning against the flow Cúchulainn landed in the middle of the tilting bridge and as it rose up vertically he slid down to the other side. First he crossed the Plain of Ill Luck, here the feet of men could stick fast and be pierced by razor sharp grass blades. Then he crossed the Perilous Glens filled with devouring beasts. Then he came to the Bridge of the Cliff, this bridge tilted upwards whenever anyone tried to cross, throwing all comers to their death. Cúchulainn attempted to cross this bridge three times and each time he failed. However finally his heroic fervour came upon him known as

At last he gained access to the stronghold of Scathach and threatened her with his sword until she agreed to teach him.
Scathach's daughter Uathach was very attracted to Cúchulainn and they became lovers while he lived at Scathach's stronghold.

In return for his tuition he had to carry out a task for Scathach. He was to defeat another great warrior woman Aoife in battle, which he did gaining his famous weapon the

this was a type of harpoon with retractable barbs, it was given by Scathach the warrior woman to Aoife who Cúchulainn conquered as a test while in the service of Scathach therefore it passed into his ownership when Aoife was defeated. It had thirty barbs and was made from the bones of a sea monster
With the Gae Bulga Cuchulaninn was unstoppable and invincable in combat
he was the Greatest Warrior the Celts Ever had

Cuchulaninn owed much of his great fame and skill to Scathach's teaching, and, indeed, most legendary references to Scathach occur in tales about Cu Chulainn. This is a shame, really, as the woman seems to have been a fascinating character and likely could have had some great adventurous myths herself. many Stories about Scathach existed, however, they have unfortunately been Destroyed when Christianity came to Scotland and
Ireland
