WEEKLYSTANDARD.COM reports:

The Romney campaign is releasing Mitt and Ann Romney's 2011 tax return today. The campaign previews a few of the highlights here:

  • In 2011, the Romneys paid $1,935,708 in taxes on $13,696,951 in mostly investment income.
  • The Romneys’ effective tax rate for 2011 was 14.1%.
  • The Romneys donated $4,020,772 to charity in 2011, amounting to nearly 30% of their income.
  • The Romneys claimed a deduction for $2.25 million of those charitable contributions.
  • The Romneys’ generous charitable donations in 2011 would have significantly reduced their tax obligation for the year. The Romneys thus limited their deduction of charitable contributions to conform to the Governor's statement in August, based upon the January estimate of income, that he paid at least 13% in income taxes in each of the last 10 years.

Additionally, the Romney campaign is releasing a summary of 20 years of taxes, between 1990-2009, detailing their tax expenditures during those years:

  • In each year during the entire 20-year period, the Romneys owed both state and federal income taxes.
  • Over the entire 20-year period, the average annual effective federal tax rate was 20.20%.
  • Over the entire 20-year period, the lowest annual effective federal personal tax rate was 13.66%.
  • Over the entire 20-year period, the Romneys gave to charity an average of 13.45% of their adjusted gross income.
  • Over the entire 20-year period, the total federal and state taxes owed plus the total charitable donations deducted represented 38.49% of total AGI.

    Thank you!
I usually only donate to local volunteer fire companies and food banks but I feel like even if I have only $15 to send them, it's putting the momentum out there into the Universe because OMGoodness we cannot survive much more of this!!

I do need to give more. Yet I rather give to a charity I believe in than give it to the government.

you are not giving charity to the government, you are paying for the rights, freedoms and protections that government does.

Nope, my RIGHTS come from God and are FREE... if government went back to the BASIC things it is Constitutionally SUPPOSED to do, NOBODY would need to pay income taxes.

If my taxes dollars were only going to pay for what is listed in the Constitution that would be one thing. Yet funding planned parent hood and doing research on makes makes certain animals want to mate is not for protecting my freedoms!

Let's think about what the Mormons do with some of those donations. Some of those donations are used so the Elders can be sponsored to go out and do good in the community. I have 2 Mormon elders here at my house, right now helping clean out my basement. Last week, they brought some pizzas over to feed my family as a treat. We are not Mormons and they know that we will not convert to Mormonism, but they see that we have a need and are more than happy to help and want nothing in return.

I was thinking that, that Jill took the proverbial bull by the horns, or Obama's got him tied up so he can't say anything.
I feel kinda bad for Biden and I respect his wife, even tho I won't vote for them...

Well I do give a few pounds here and there. But I don't have much money right now being a student and all. You can't really trust big organisations to do what's best with the money.
