Conservatives criticized the Congressional Republicans for scheduling the Contempt of Congress vote on the same day as the Supreme Court's release of its decision on Obama's Affordable Care Act (aka "Obamacare").

Breitbart.com reports:In their latest display of political ineptitude, House Republicans today held the contempt vote for Attorney General Eric Holder over his failure to turn over documents in the Fast and Furious scandal. They could not have picked a worse time to schedule the vote.

The GOPers were stupid on this any way you cut it. Whether because it's on the same date as the SC ruling, or because Fortune magazine makes clear they were duped into thinking Holder did something wrong:

"A Fortune investigation reveals that the ATF never intentionally allowed guns to fall into the hands of Mexican drug cartels. How the world came to believe just the opposite is a tale of rivalry, murder, and political bloodlust."

The contempt hearing was scheduled before the ruling was changed from last week to this week. It was the SCOTUS that changed their date.

they thought it was gong to be a defining day for their party. the thinking was that health care reform would be struck down in the morning and they would vote for contempt charges against holder in the afternoon. their big day didn't go off as planned.

I think it's pretty obvious that Boehner deliberately scheduled the vote for a time when he knew no one would be paying attention. Boehner isn't a complete idiot like Issa and he knows that a farce like this will always blow up in your face. But he couldn't actually say no to the tea partiers who forced this silliness so he made sure it would pass when no one would shine that big a spotlight on it.

Yeah, but the thing is they knew days ago that the Health Care decision would be announced today. Boehner is the Speaker of the House and he could have scheduled the vote for yesterday, tomorrow or next week. I think he chose to hold the vote today because he knew that the move would be condemned as a cheap partisan waste of time and he didn't want too much attention focused on it. He couldn't actually stand up to the tea party contingent and refuse to hold the vote altogether, so he did the next best thing.

The Tea Party supports Boehner. He won in 2010 and he will win in 2012. He has his schedule and the Supreme Court has theirs.

All Holder had to do is produce facts and there would not have been any vote. We have been down this road before with both political parties. Nixon was the last one and now it is Obama hiding things.

Naturally if he produced facts, it would all be over if those facts didn't incriminate. But I think they do which is why he doesn't produce them.

I think you miss the point. John Boehner is the Speaker of the House. He can schedule the vote for any day and any time he wants to. He CHOSE to schedule the vote at a time when it would get the least possible media coverage because he KNEW what an embarrassment it would turn out to be for the Right Wing. The Tea Party has owned him since last summer when they forced a lowering of our credit rating and took us to the brink of default by blackmailing Boehner into rejecting the deal President Obama offered that included four TRILLION dollars in spending cuts in exchange for a 0.2% increase in taxes on the second million dollars earned by the top 340,000 Americans. Instead we got the nonsensical "supercommittee" and now mandatory cuts that the Republicans are still struggling to weasel out of.

No, Nixon was not the last one. The Bush Administration was the most secretive and combative Administration in American history. Nancy Pelosi was completely correct when she pointed out that she could have had Karl Rove arrested on the spot for his contemptuous conduct. Dick Cheney went all the way to the Supreme Court where his fishing buddy Antonin Scalia made sure that he wouldn't have to disclose to Congress who he met with on his "energy task force" - Note they weren't even ask...

Those are people who actually broke laws. The only thing Eric Holder is guilty of is not being corrupt and thus not a suitable target for the latest Right Wing vast conspiracy theory of the day.

You said; “He CHOSE to schedule the vote at a time when it would get the least possible media coverage because he KNEW what an embarrassment it would turn out to be for the Right Wing.”

You’re spewing Marxist propaganda. Marxism doesn’t work! Therefore, Liberals can’t produce facts. They can only spew accusations, fallacies, and personal attacks.

Produce facts (quotes and references) to back up your party line crap but you can’t. Come on slam me with facts but you can't.

Republicans will do anything within their power to disrupt progress; their only agenda is to make the President a one term President. It not going to happen though just ask the Supreme Court that upheld healthcare reform bill … what a great day for Americans.

LOL they can, but they are easily distracted. From the channel surfing I've been doing it seems like health care is getting the bulk of the attention.

And you know, what's kind of sad is that there's actually a third story that no one seems to be reporting. Today the Supreme Court also struck down a law making it a crime to lie about having earned military decorations.

I know, I heard that this morning. I remember learning in college that sometimes a conservative SC will make an unexpectedly liberal-sounding decision and vice-versa, and this struck me as one of those moments.

It's really highly conservative to say it's ok to lie about earning military decorations, but it sounds flamingly liberal. Freedom of speech means it's nearly always ok to lie as long as no positive harm is done. If I steal your decorations, I can be brought down for stealing, but not for lying about how I got them because the lie didn't hurt you, the theft did. Conversely, it's highly liberal to say we have to protect some people from lies by other people.

The vote wasn't even scheduled until after the Court let everyone know that the ruling would be coming down today. Boehner deliberately scheduled the vote for today so this embarrassment would get the least possible media coverage.
