Racy 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Is a Hit With Women: Are You Curious to Read It?

It's been called "mommy porn" and "porn for women." Whatever it is, women everywhere can't get enough of the book, "Fifty Shades of Grey." The original book and its two sequels were self-published by previously unknown author E.L. James. It tells the tale of Anastasia Steele, a virginal college graduate, and Christian Grey, a billionaire with some pretty racy fetishes. And it's a huge hit -- currently No. 3 on Amazon, and No. 1 on the New York Times' e-book fiction best-seller list.

So why are women everywhere sneaking under the covers to read this book, which has been called "Twilight" for grown-ups? "It’s relighting a fire under a lot of marriages," Lyss Stern, founder of DivaMoms.com, told the Times. “I think it makes you feel sexy again, reading the books."

"Women just feel like it’s OK to read it," another woman said. "It’s taboo for women to admit that they watch pornography, but for some reason it's OK to admit that they’re reading this book." We're also hearing that the book series is NOT a romance and doesn't end well. Is it surprising that women are going for this sort of thing? Or is it the perfect book to peruse on your e-reader, and have nobody be the wiser?

Read through the first thirty pages and I put it down. It was just...ugh...terrible. Smutty and disgusting with such nasty raunchiness that I don't like reading at all.

As a male no. Men are into visual, women into the reading. It looks as to how long it takes for full arousal of the mate.

First, I'm a kid xD Second, I care nothing about the story/adult-stuff of the book. I like the title though. I thought it was some meaningful story of life or something. Shame it's not what I hopped it was =\

Not my type of book. And if I can't figure out how to make my sex-life "light-up" then I really don't need to be reading about someone else doing it.

Erotica in novels is nothing new. Anne rice wrote a series full of fetishes decades ago. Most historical romances are full of detailed sex scenes. I know my husband is happy when I get a new laurel k Hamilton book which can't even be classified as soft porn anymore, because he always benefits. Much in the same way I benefit when he watches porn. Read cold heart canyon by Clive barker for sex scenes that are so wrong but do they turn you on. Another sex book in fifty shades of grey? Just add it to the collection like adding to the video porn pile.

I wasn't interested in Twilight, I'm not interested in a fan-fiction erotica twilight.

Men are visual and pictures of naked women often do it for them. Women need mental stimulation and reading is better for most of us. Once in a while I read a steamy book (Anita blake) and when my bf see's me, he passes me a glass of red and takes care of the dishes cause he knows what's coming later

One of the nurses where I work just got through reading it and she gave us all a blow by blow. It seemed to really have an affect on her and I think her husband really benefited from her reading it. lol

    3 reasons:
It started out as Twilight fan fiction then the author changed the names.
Story of O came out in 1954.
    I'm not a woman.
