Queen Latifah is about to launch her own
clothing line on HSN this August.
But no, it's not for
plus-size women. And you'd better not let her hear you say that.
"It is a word we need to bury at this point," she told WWD of the term. "It's for all sizes."
Latifah explained that her line, which will include jeans, leggings, T-shirts and more -- will service women
size 2 and up.
"The truth is, we all would like to wear the same clothes. We all want to wear beautiful, fly clothes no matter what size you are, and so for me it was important to match with a company that understood and respected that ideal."
(Now, can she come up with a pair of skinny jeans in a size 4 that don't make our thighs look huge?)
Latifah says she had a problem with the fashion industry in the past.
"I felt like larger girls were not respected, even though we are huge consumers. I was not going to step out with a clothing line that didn’t respect a fuller-figured woman or a curvaceous woman, and really all women."
So why is it OK to call a woman "fuller-figured," but not "plus-size"?
Also, it's kind of a dumb term anyway. Just say large.
She's not obese, but neither is she slim.
"a 10-12 is no longer a medium but a large." Ok, that is pretty damn horrifying from my context, as we dont have anything under size 6 (someone who can fit into there is a skeleton), but if a size 0 now was a 3-5 when you were young the sizes on the label are obviously getting smaller, probably why people are considered 'plus size" for wearing a 16. it would've been a size 20 in your time maybe?
Compliments risk getting your face slapped, or worse.
