When we asked the public what kinds of things turn them on or off on a first date, we got a lot of different responses. But the one thing everyone can take away from this little survey is this: Keep the cell phone at bay! It's one thing to pick up if your mom calls, but if you're texting your best friend for advice through the whole thing, don't be too surprised when that second date never comes. However, there are a couple of broad demographics that are (slightly) more receptive to it, and on the bright side, we've got the key to a good date, as well. Let's dive!

I don't care if he has his cellphone on the table so he can see who's calling when the cellphone lights up, but don't use it unless it's an emergency!!!!!!! I HATE when my boyfriend spends the whole meal texting in my face.. Why don't you go on a date with your cellphone if you love it so much? -.-"

I say, if you're always on the telephone... do it on the first date, as well. Give the other person a chance to see what he/she will be dealing with if they're dumb enough to actually hook up with you.

Well, if you go out on a date and you spend most of your time on the Cell Phone then maybe you should've stayed home.......

Unless it is someone who you don't want to be around and they won't leave you alone....Then that explains it...

Indeed. I dont understand how someone can go on a date and be there using the phone all the time.
The focus there should be the girl and theres no excuse to be using the phone while both are there to have a good moment together.

Generally, I'll check my phone, but I won't answer it unless it's seriously important. So long as they aren't like, ON THE PHONE ALL THE TIME, I'm pretty okay with it.

Gee, using a cell phone never entered into my head. of COURSE it's a no-no, you're there to converse with the person you're with, not every other person in America!

More than once, I've noticed a gal getting that 'tuned out' expression when her boyfriend keeps answering his phone! It kind of makes a girl wonder if he's really interested?

I hate when my bf is on his phone. Friends too... If you wanna hang out, our you wanna be with me, best way to show it is to be there with me mentally. Not just physically...

lol! When I got my first hearing aids, the doctor told me, "Don't worry, you really haven't missed anything. Most people don't talk about anything any way. You'll probably have to force yourself to keep your hearing aids on."

This will sound pathetic, but I am perfectly happy to have the phone off, but not having it with me, would drive me nuts!
