Public Opinion Says Circumcision Is Assault

ServantOfAllah 2012/06/29 13:12:43
54% of people who answered the poll agreed that circumcision is assault.

56% of women agreed, 51% of men did too.

People from 13-44 agreed, while older people disagreed.

Atheists were split 50/50, 33% of Christians agreed, agnostics agreed 100%, and Jews disagreed 100%, for obvious reasons.

Politically 62% of people who described themselves as "other" agreed, as well as 88% of liberals, and 57% of moderates. Libertarians were split 50/50 and 18% of conservatives agreed.

60% of people who are divorced agreed, as well as 57% of people in a relationship, 50% of married people, and 57% of singles.

Parents and people who want to have kids agreed 56% and 60% respectively. People undecided or don't want kids disagree.

56% of non-smokers agreed, while only 23% of smokers agreed. Perhaps smokers don't care any more about babies' bodies than they do their own.

54% of non drinkers agreed while only 41% of boozers agreed. Again it might be about respect for the human body.

57% of people with graduate and professional schooling agreed, while only 33% of high school graduates agreed.

73% of retirees agreed but only 28% of full time workers agreed.

83% of healthcare professionals agreed, along with 67% in I.T., and 50% of small business owners.

I don't think it does. Should we cut girls' labia off so their hoochies are cleaner too?

I disagree. I was circumcised as an infant and am very happy about it. It makes everything much more sanitary.

On that I have no opinion. None of our daughters or granddaughters has had that done to them. I can only speak from my own experience as a man. I am feel very greatful it was done on my behalf as an infant.

You would probably feel the same way if your member was still intact. We tend to like what we have and don't want to change it, for the most part.

Well it is true I had no say in it. And there is no way I can know how things would have been had I not been circumcised. But I just read this on Wikipedia "circumcision reduces the infection rate of HIV among heterosexual men by 38%-66% over a period of 24 months,"

From what I've learned over my very long life, that I was luck to have been circumcised. If one of my granddaughters gave birth to a boy and asked me for advice in the matter, I would recommend circumcision.

I understand. Just remember the foreskin has a purpose and part of that purpose is to allow easier entry into the vagina. It acts like a roller bearing.

Really? Where did you read that? Well I've never had any entry issues over my life time. And no men don't compare entry stories , at least the men I've known over the years. In fact men as a rule, don't ask one another if they are circumcised or not and I highly doubt there has been any research on your topic.

He may still be in college but he has it right.. Take your foreskin and gently roll it back and forth over the glans (try not to get too exited you need a clear head to judge exactly what happens) But then you probably cant can you because someone else decided for you that you should not be able to do this and some snake oil salesman/quack took a knife or implement to you and mutilated you for life. There is realyno need to deride someone for their oppinion especialy if you are not armed with facts.

Ok nice read. Did you know anyone can ad material to Wikipedia? And that for every study of everything, there are studies that disagree. Again I had no choice in my circumcision. I have never had issues as you describe. I checked your profile and found I have 45 more years on this planet than you do. And IMHO, I think experience trumps Wikipedia. If you are not circumcised, fine. I am not advocating you or any other male member to get circumcised. You are an adult, make your own choices.

Ok I had no control over my life as an infant. I am happy I was circumcised. My brother was not and has had health issues over the years as a result. I prefer my own and my brother's experiences over something written by some one else. Experience trumps book learning every time.

I am not nor is any of my family and friends. Perhaps your brother was thee victim of ignorance in the simple need to look after that facet of his life. What you are implying is that more then 80% of the world’s men have health issues because they are not circumcised, believe me they don’t. Neither do the rest of the mammals in animal kingdom

I am not implying anything. I am going by my very long life experiences. I say be happy with who you are. I am. I am a heterosexual 65 year old man, married to the same woman 47 years. And I choose to go by what I have experienced over my life and I expect others to do the same. I like to read too, but you do have to take everything you read with a grain of salt.

Well you beat me by one year. I have been married to the same woman for 42 years next month. And I am also drawing on the experience of my life. The only difference is that I know what I am talking about because I have a foreskin. And so do all of my family (not counting the women of coarse) and to the best of my knowledge most of my friends. You should keep in mind however that there is a properway to deal with it and In the the USA especialy in the time when you were a boy US doctors knew nothing about it other then to cut it of. Even today they seem to be strugling.

OK I am not trying to convince you or anyone else to get circumcised. I am no a doctor and don't think you are either. I only responded to the poll as I have to thousands of others and gave my opinion. And in this case my experience as a circumcised man. And no I have no idea if any of my friends or relatives other than my brother are cut or not. I don't ask other men if they are cut or not. If I ever did, I would have to either a researcher on the subject or gay. And I am neither. And I would never try to tell anyone in Australia how to live or for that matter anyone here in the US. And by the way I like Australians in general, but I dislike residents of other countries trying to force their ideas on US citizens. I enjoy hearing opinions form all over the world. I enjoy debate. But I do not care for other people trying to tell me how to live and somehow my thinking about my own body is wrong.

That’s fine but the question at the top of the page was not is it good or is it bad the question was is circumcision on infants assault and it is, because it can not be anything else, never mind the reasoning or motive behind it. Unless we change the meaning of the word assault. This is not meant as a personal afront it is simply discusing the word asault.

The laws vary from country to country, from state to state. Elected officials make and change laws. The Hippocratic Oath, that all doctors take (at least in the US), is "do no harm". And it appears you and your supporters are attacking all doctors that perform circumcisions, not unlike some in the US attack doctors who do abortions.

Circumcision in the US is legal as are abortions. Only by changing laws can any change occur. And until I read this poll, I was not aware of any anti circumcision movement in the US. There is however a very large group of anti abortion folks in the US, but despite this, abortion is still legal (Roe v Wade 1973).

But the isue here is simply that circumcision of a born baby is asault and that is what it is. never mind your stand on abortion which is another issue.

The only reason I brought abortion up, is because it being a life and death issue is far more important than circumcision. And to think that your group, if you have one, can outlaw circumcision in the US is pure folly.

I don’t have a group. I am just an independent participant with an opinion on the subject. Never the less It will only be a matter of time until this becomes a human rights issue. Where it comes to human rights the US is notoriously slow but they eventually do come to the party.
