"Frasier" star Kelsey Grammer unabashedly got his fourth wife's name tattooed on his hip this weekend, conjuring that age-old question: Is it ever appropriate to get a tattoo of your significant other's name? Of all people, you'd think a man who had been divorced three times would be aware of the relative instability of a relationship. As sad as it may sound, marriage is not as permanent as a tattoo. We asked the public if relationship tattoos could ever be a good idea.

What? Relationship tattoos are a bad idea? You don't say! We're surprised they got as much support as they did. The Top Opinion summarized it well: "Never get anyone's name tattooed unless they are your kid or they are dead." That sounds like a pretty good rule of thumb. Or... hip, forearm, lower back, wherever. However, there were some respondents with first-hand experience. One commenter wrote, "I don't regret it because at that point in time that person made a memory in my life."
It's Complicated
Surprisingly, the most supportive respondents were those in "complicated" relationships. You'd think they would be more skeptical, but maybe that explains why Grammer was so willing to tat up. However, divorcees were by far the least supportive, so... It's complicated.

Women are nearly twice as likely to say a relationship tattoo could work. It could be that men, in general, are more hesitant to commit. That is a common stereotype, and you can't commit much harder than embedding someone's name into your dermis with permanent ink.

Tattoos typically aren't very popular with conservatives in the first place, which could easily explain the difference between liberals and conservatives. There was a similar gap between Christians and atheists, which we assume would be for similar reasons.

My parents have been married for 20 years, and are stil veeeery much in love, and they have each others names tattooed on their shoulders.
"I love you too! Okay!" and three weeks later their divorced...awkward.
To me, the whole idea of getting a tattoo is weird. But using a tattoo as a way of showing commitment to your spouse is about as good a reason as any.
Before the Taibou came (Europeans) OUR HOLY PEOPLE said they would come. They also said OUR SYMBOL Of the PEOPLE (EAGLE) Would be atop their staff. It was prophesy if they came with the symbol of the circle they would save our people, it was also said, if they come with the symbol of a CROSS they will almost destroy us.
Now we are in another stage, that is, THE TREE OF LIFE! THAT ALL COLORS and CULTURES WILL STAND WITH US.
THE FIRST SHALL BE LAST and the LAST SHALL BE FIRST - EARTH SPIRITUALITY!
