PUBLIC OPINION > It's Still Harder to Be a Woman

SodaHead Living 2012/07/17 21:00:00
Women recently outscored men in IQ testing research for the first time in a century, but that doesn't necessarily mean life is easier on them. Women have made a lot of social, political and financial progress during that time... But is it still harder to be a woman? Hahajk.com asked the public.

women

The short answer is yes, most people think it is still harder to be a woman. However, the original question had two separate responses for each answer. The most popular answer overall was "Yes, but it's getting better." So despite the discouraging result, there's quite a bit of optimism out there. The most popular "No" response was that everyone gets "a fair shake."

Men Call It Even

Gender was, not surprisingly, the most divisive demographic. In fact, men were the only major demographic that gave "No" a majority vote, and it was by quite a bit. Only 35% of them think it's tougher to be a woman. Voters cited scholarships, maternity leave, the draft, and custody battles as a few reasons why men can also have it rough.

Teens Say It's Tough to Be a Woman

Age wasn't as significant as gender, but there was certainly a correlation. Teens, on average, were about 20% more likely than older respondents to claim it's still tougher to be a women, though it fluctuated a bit. Maybe it's a matter of perspective. For older voters, it might be that women seem to have it easier relative to the past.

Money Doesn't Discriminate

One reason some feel women still have it rough is that they typically make less than men. Based on the income demographic, people who make more more than $50,000 are more likely to say that men and women have a fair shake. It could be that there are more men making over $50,000, or it could be that women who make over $50,000 don't feel as much pressure.

If you'd like to vote on this question, dig deeper into the demographics, or engage in existing discussion about the topic, visit the original poll about being a woman. We'd love to hear from you!

Many think it's harder to be a woman because the politically correct thing is to think all burdens rest on females, but women are more intelligent, men are bad, women are good, and the list goes on.

I noticed many Sodahead males readily agree that women are more intelligent and men get all the lucky breaks. What a crock! I cannot fathom why so many of us think that women have no advantages. They want to be our equals, but I still feel the pressure of thinking it's "ladies first." To hell with that! Saying "ladies first" is saying that women are superior. There is absolutely no reason why we should continue the practice of ladies first.

BTW: When my uncle was a boy in the Sixties, he said that boys would get physically punished for the slightest thing. Girls were always respected, and nobody ever, ever thought of physically punishing a female. A male gym teacher humiliated boys and flirted with girls. Many other male teachers followed suit. So girls had it harder???

Western women have become self-righteous, narcissistic, bitches who often have no respect for males. No woman gets my respect until I see that it's going to be reciprocated.

Women are more intelligent in nature because of sevial reasons, in some cases, but that doesn't mean they are good and men are bad...in the story of adem and eve who was the one who tricked thr other into biting the forbbiden fruit? also women are equal to men, don't just list mens wrong with womens right, your trying to make people belive what you do, the question is phrased wrong, what the media is really asking is: 'What side are you on: male or female?' trying to make gender war...instead of fighting why not just accept that both are equal instead of trying to change, the respect so it's lower for the other gender, we have 'ladies first' for a reason,

Of course men hit men to punish them, but they don't flirt with women to reward them, and they really didn't reward a women just because a man was punished, wemon were punished by other wemon, men were punished by other men, men cannot hit women because they are more fragile, and could be badly hurt, sure some wemon are wrong for hitting a man for no reason, but the reason women can hit men is so they can protect themselves, making males and females fight is all it takes to control the population, the enimey of my enimey is my friend. why are most people giving into this trick, and fighting a war that doesn't make sense,

women do have things to take care of that men don't so they get the respect to make up for it, men also have things to take care of that women don't, thats why they have just as much respect as women do...dividing ganders is just like dividing races, it still makes a war..you say 'ladies first' shouldn't be practiced, but men are not downgraded because women get respected, by saying 'ladies first' a man is respected more, and the women feels respected as well...that just doesn't help one gender...learn that we are equal...theres one word, one direction i can give you to get you through life....listen.

Women are still second class citizens, even in developed nations. There have been many times in my own life when I have been seen as nothing but a pair of tits, and then when I assert myself as being a human being who deserves equal rights and equal treatment, I become a "bitch" and a "man hating lezbo femi-nazi."
Women still make seventy cents on the dollar for equal work, and it's harder for women to get into higher paying jobs.

Do woman have it harder than men? I don't think so. Not in the USA any way. In the Middle East absolutely positively yes! I wish I could rescue those poor souls from their earthly Hell.

In the USA it may be tough to be a woman today but it is just as tough to be a man. I believe the ones who have it the toughest are the white, 20 something males. They are the new minority. Discrimination laws protect everyone but them. Think about it.

In case you are wondering, I am an older woman.

It is much harder being a man today. Women are favored in divorce court and in child custody cases. Women are favored in the work force--men are expected to work harder and to do all the heavy lifting. Women flirt and get away with murder with their bosses and men are still expected to pay for dates in most cases. Men are also expected to pay the bills in most cases. Women have it made in comparison to what men have to go through today.

When we got divorced my husband got custody of the boys and I paid a good amount of child support. Working as a nurse for 15 years there were not a lot of men around to do the heavy lifting, hence the hoyer lift found in just about every single nursing home and hospital around. As far as flirting goes, some woman might flirt, but the majority do not and are not interested in it. I have seen male flirts also. As for paying for dates, well sir that is something you need to establish at the beginning. IMHO I think if both are making similar amounts there is no reason not to take turns paying for meals or hell go dutch. I never minded doing that. I would much rather pay my way than let some guy pay for everything and then expect something for it. Establish the paying before you go out. And as for paying bills, now a days men and women pay bills. The majority of households are two income families.

My guess is, you have been dating the wrong kind of woman. I am a hard working woman but I know there are lazy women and men out there. As far as lifting the heavy stuff, everyone knows men are physically stronger than women. If there are no men around, I would have no problem using a forklift, front loader or whatever equipment I'd need to get the job done. There are women who would never think of doing these things. I can hear them in my mind "Oh dear me, I can't do that. Let the man do it." They give up without even trying.

Flirting with the boss is BAD etiquette. unprofessional and very unbecoming of a lady. Back in the day; (I am an older woman) when I was dating, I preferred going "dutch". I paid half. I also paid my own bills.

As far as divorce is concerned, I've known a few men who have received custody of their children. Things are changing slowly but they are changing. In any case, my heart goes out to the children.

You need to look for a hard working, honest woman who is not afraid to "take the bull by the horns" My advice to you; If she is afraid to sit in the saddle and take the reins, move on to the next one.

This question isn't fair. The reason is simple: This question can't be answered. You can't simply read out a book on the subject and say that it's a fact. You can't rely on science on that matter. Doing a survey is totaly useless. All we have here is some people sharing their own personnal experiences, wich is nowhere near being a fact that applies for everyone of the same sex. From my point of view, I'll be honest: There's no way we, the men, can answer that question, and vice-versa. We can always bring up history to back our words but things has changed and these old ideas doesn't make any sense anymore. This question is the same as "Does Religion suits the human race?". Why? Well in both questions, the "problem" is invisible, so can't be proven, but many of you will defend their belief while knowing deep inside you that "nobody knows, including you".

You're right, it IS discrimination, but the rich and powerful (corporations) are not at all afraid of being accused of it, because you can't just accuse them, you have to "prove" it.. This is almost impossible and they have unlimited funds to pay lawyers to fight these accusations. I can't tell you how many times I didn't get a job because I was a white male over 40...one time the job went to a Korean girl in her early 20's who could hardly speak English.

Not only that but the welfare models of Italy, Portugal, Spain and (to a lesser extent) Germany) are specifically designed to limit female participation in the labour force.
