PUBLIC OPINION > 15 Is Old Enough to Wax

SodaHead Living 2012/07/10 20:00:00
Uni K Wax Centers in Florida and New York recently received criticism for releasing an ad that encourages "all girls 15 and younger" to wax by offering them discounted services. Critics were "disgusted" with the ad, alleging that it was "completely inappropriate" to encourage waxing at such a young age. We asked the public if it's too young to wax.

sodahead waxing

Most respondents felt that 15-year-old girls were old enough to wax. The Top Opinion put it bluntly: "Is it too old to shave? No? Then it's not too old to wax. What's with the stigma against waxing?" Critics argued that waxing shows an unhealthy concern with body image. Many suggested young girls would be better off spending their time having fun or doing their homework. But technically, doesn't waxing cut down on time spent shaving?

Men Mind the Age

Since many female voters have been faced with the decision themselves, they were quite a bit more sympathetic to young girls who want to try waxing. However, men were nearly split. Reading through the comments, it did seem that some male voters were under the impression that "waxing" is synonymous with "bikini wax," which may have affected the vote somewhat.

Teens Want to Have the Option

Naturally, the age group in question was perfectly fine with allowing themselves to wax. That doesn't necessarily mean they want to wax, just that 15 is old enough to make their own decision. Of course, most teens aren't parents, so they probably don't have the same perspective, but that doesn't make their opinion any less valuable.

Parents Play It Safe

As we suggested above, part of the reason older voters are more reluctant to let 15-year-old girls wax is because many of them are parents. When you're a parent, you're more concerned about the implications of seemingly innocuous things, like waxing or wearing makeup. It's not that waxing is particularly "inappropriate" as it is prematurely superficial.

Yes but have u ever felt embarrassed about the hair on your legs or arms some girls often need the waxing done in order to have confidence to be able to wear shorts so tell me would you rather get them teased by other girls of how hairy they are?

What's wrong with shaving until she is 18? If the shaving only last for 2 weeks she'll shave again in 2 weeks. What so hard about that?

FIRST. this is not about pubic hair. Its about waxing legs. That's what the original thread was about anyway. Waxing the lady bits of any girl under the age of 17 is considered fondling of a minor (so is piercing, some state laws vary).

Now my opinion is that if you can shave, you can wax. It only makes sense. It's just hair removal. 92% of women in America ages 13 and over remove unwanted body hair. It's not like it isn't social norm.

15 is the perfect age to wax. I've been waxing way before 15 but only my eyebrows and lip. I had to. There are other options but waxing when u need to I never had a problem with it.

for me its depends on the hair growth. If your not to much hairy i suggest not to go for it. Just leave it as it is. Cause the more you wax it the more it grows. :)

It sure beats the bearded lady look. It's what most women and girls would look like if they didn't shave. They'd have hairy butts, very hairy legs, arm pits, and a little hair on their faces. Some might even have some hair on their titties. Oooh baby :)

Learn different methods of hair removal at home not at a salon. Not that hard to do. and you learn something. You can experiment with what's right for you.

As I said on the original poll, if you're old enough to shave, you're old enough to wax. The only difference is that waxing pulls the hair out by the root. I don't understand why people are generally fine with girls 11-15 shaving but have a problem with waxing. IT'S JUST HAIR, and not even your hair. Get over it.

yea but... waxing can cause skin to sag.especially around the eye area and face. once your skin gets a little loose, you can always go in for facials or buy their products. its a win win for the salon.....

I thought they were talking about body waxing, not face. I personally don't feel good about waxing my face simply because the few times I have it made my skin sore. But the skin on the body is much tougher and I have a hard time believing it would sag from waxing.

all that pulling cant b good...maybe depends how elastic your skin is...but i usually see alot more girls getting eyebrows waxed at salons. you can do legs at home. i stopped when i noticed the delicate skin below my eyebrows seemed lower. i stopped immidiately. i recovered my skin just in time...now i shave. i know its every two days. but i noticed the sagging has stopped.

I've heard that you shouldn't pull on the skin when applying eye makeup, so I guess it makes a lot of sense that waxing would be a bad idea too. I just never thought of it till now. You shave your eyebrows? Isn't that hard? I pluck my eyebrows with tweezers.

it took a ton of practice. once i shaved half my eyebrow off at the end by accident. i pluck the strays while holding down the skin around the hair and pulling out as fast as i could with least tugging possible. then i use my husband's beard trimmer and trimmed them down to a smooth flat laying stubble. i only pluck maybe about six or seven at the most...then i fill in with an eyebrow pencil..i guess plucking them out gives you the control how to hold your skin n tug...whereas waxing pulls the entire spot.

Reading most of these responses clearly show that most think this is about waxing pubic hair. Since there is no mention of public hair I assume we're talking legs. Waxing is probably safer than using a razor. No nick and cuts. I see no problem with waxing at any at 15 or even younger if hair is a problem. If they can have sex and abort a child at this age, why all the outrage over waxing?

Like some people said shaving can make legs brake out. I think waxing is a good way to avoid that.

Im younger than that. I see no issue. Sometimes shaving can irritate my skin and waxing is just much easier.

It depends on where they are in puberty and how hairy they are- a sliding standard, in other words.

Notice they deliberately and not-so-subtly avoided any mention of 'public hair'... 'cause that's oh-so taboo in today's "free" America.
