Who said you have to be a skinny minnie to wear a teeny bikini? Plus-size fashion blogger Gabi Gregg has posted a photo of herself in a "fatkini" and asked other readers of xojane.com to do the same. Some of the ladies look great, but critics say Gregg is "promoting an unhealthy weight."

Gregg, however, thinks she's been misunderstood. "I’m all for health," the 25-year-old, who wears a size 18, told the "Today" show. "I think people should be really aware of what they’re putting in their bodies and try to get more active. The truth is, we have to live in our bodies and be happy with the bodies we have right now, regardless of where we are in our journey to health.

"So often in the media all we see are thin women in bikinis," she added. "I love my body. I think we should kind of reject these fashion rules about what we are and about what we are not allowed to wear."

She also said women pay too much attention to their weight when it comes to their health. "My measure for health is how good I feel," Gregg said. "The main thing is to judge how you feel and what you’re putting into your body, how active you are and not based on a number on a scale." Do you think women should rock their "fatkinis" with pride?

I don't get the point of you posting this, but okay.

Any ways I just thought of this: saying "If fat people don't want to be judged, they should lose the weight" is the same as saying "If black people don't want to be judged for being black, maybe they should bleach their skin". "If blond people don't like being judged for being blond, maybe they should dye their hair", "If ugly girls don't like being ugly, maybe they should wear makeup 24/7 or get plastic surgery"...the list goes on and on. Point is, no one likes being judged for anything, so should they change because of it? No. If we changed with every criticism, we wouldn't be ourselves, plus, there'd still be things that people wouldn't like you for. So maybe you just shouldn't judge someone in the first place.

What about hair color? You can most definitely control that. But that was besides the point anyways, I was trying to show you that we can't change ourselves to fit other people's expectations, but maybe you were too dense to realize that. We should all just be ourselves. What if I said something bad about your appearance and told you to change yourself? That would be stupid, wouldn't it? Because if I don't like one thing about you, there would probably be other people who do. So why should I tell you to change it, because you get judged for it? Makes no sense. So who are you to tell fat people to change? And not only that, but skinny people get mad when big people make fun of them, yet skinny people think it's okay to make fun of big people. LOL, y'all can dish it out, but you just can't take it. Such cowardice :P

Or maybe you've never heard of HAIR DYE. But regardless, the fact that after all I pointed out to you and that was all you had to say shows that you really are dense but that doesn't surprise me at all so I'm good.

What's more impressive is that you can only find faults in others, but you have yet to respond to all the other points I've made that shows your faults. How does that make me the dumb one? Better yet, it doesn't make you dumb, it makes you fake & cowardly, which I find hilarous tho :P

"Fat people can control their weight, but eat excessively instead.. "

Compulsive eating is an eating disorder you know. Funny how it's okay to make fun of the fat woman with an ED though...

Also, not all people eat excessively you know.

Why should anyone take you seriously when you're nothing more than a bully yourself? Know what's pathetic? Bullies who act all high and mighty and holier than thou by seeking out other people who are already perceived as bullies, so it looks like they're being 'nice' and defending others. I don't see Maci seeking out and fighting with all of the people who answered "awesome".

"Promoting an unhealthy weight"? Please! More
like "Oh no, a woman that's bigger than a size 0 and is comfortable with her body despite the media's pressure to be thin!" They can kiss her fat ass and shut up.

Why does it have to be 0 or 18? Why can't it be something healthy, like 6 or 10?

It doesn't have to be 0 or 18, it can be whatever size the individual pleases.

no....it should be watever is healthy for the individual. if i "please" to be a size 18 then i would get diabetes and be extremely unhealthy. obviously that women is not meant to be that size. its not good to be comfortable looking like that. If she were very healthy than that would be different. but you can see all that extra flab and no muscle tone

Not necesarily true. A person can be size 18 without diabetes. There are healthy overweight people you know.

So there must be nothing wrong with smoking, as long as you're healthy...

Good comparison, but they're two entirely different things. Actually, there is no such thing as a healthy smoker. Every cigarette takes off 11 minutes of your life. You are single-handedly destroying your lungs that way. Not to mention the fact that you're also infecting every one else's air when you smoke. But you can't say the same with being overweight.
  • Inquisi... Aquaduck 2012/06/04 23:33:02
    Inquisitve Kat
It is the same, that's what you're not getting... every moment you're fat you're putting more strain on your back and organs... so, by your logic, there is no healthy fat person.

Please stop comparing smokers to being fat.
