The Duke and the Duchess of Cambridge (aka Prince William and Kate Middleton) have a new addition to their family. No, it's not a baby (yet) ... it's an adopted puppy. The black cocker spaniel, seen with the royal couple during a beach stroll in Wales earlier this month, is a "few months old" and comes from a litter "with a close family connection," a source told People.

"The puppy is theirs," a Palace aide tells Us Weekly, adding that Kate, 30, and William, 29, fell in love with the pup last Christmas. "He belongs to a litter of cocker spaniels from one of Carole Middleton's friends near home," the aide said, referring to Kate's mom.

"At first, they had just taken it home for a short period of time to see how they would adapt. William and Catherine fell in love with the pup instantly and it wasn't long before they decided to keep him. He's now part of the royal fold!"

They certainly look happy together ... and puppy makes three. Is the royal pet a pretty cute pup? Or have you seen cuter? We think it's pretty adorable (and we can't wait to hear what they named it). But we're kind of more excited about the prospect of a royal baby ...

Still cute. I hope their friend isn't a breeder. So many rescue dogs out there need saving.

One of my neighbors used to have a dog like this one. He was a sweetheart. But towards the end he was getting real loopy. He'd want to go outside, then inside, then outside again constantly. It became a little too much! Eventually someone else took him. They have a dalmation now named Molly. She's a sweet heart too!!

It's cute! I don't get the royal baby rush thing. Let them be a married couple for a while.
Saying that,its not like i won't be happy for them but seriously. They have at least 15 years left to have kids so i don't get the rush. My parents waited about 4 yrs before thinking of the little feet.

I don't get the dog thing, but being royals they don't have to take care of the pet or the baby when it comes. When the wife and I were newlyweds we traveled and had no pets so we were not bogged down with responsibility, but that is what money is about you don't have to think of any of those things.

Super Cute, but their house is so big that they should adopt more from shelters. Their staff can handle the work and they can experience the unconditional love that only pets can bring to a home!
