Pot-Smoking Teen Mom Drives Away With 5-Week-Old Son on the Roof of the Car: Accident or Crime?

As it wasn't INTENTIONAL it was, of course, an accident. But manslaughter is often accidental too. This WOULD have been manslaughter had the baby been killed on the road - as it so easily could have.

Her behaviour is indicative of negligence which IS a crime as it is a form of child abuse.

You can forget your drink or maybe your purse on top of your car but the baby shouldn't have even been on the top of the car in the first place she should have given that baby away.

Has she lost her ever-loving mind, oh yeah that's right she doesn't have one! Her judgment is too impaired to care anymore than that for a five-week old child she doesn't need that child. Give it to someone that can take care of it and wants the baby in the first place. In the State of Texas that is a crime known as Child Endangerment and she would more than likely have the child taken away from her and she would wind up in jail, that is exactly what she needs. How old is this teen? She still has no business with an infant in my opinion. Thanks for letting me blow off the steam!!!!! At the age of 19 she should have had a few more brain cells than she did in order to go off and leave that baby on the roof of the car. Why not tie her to the roof of the car and take her for a ride, ooppss, in her stoned frame of mind she would probably enjoy that!

I really do not feel this is a crime. And she shouldnt be charged with aggervated assault, if anything they should be trying to pin her on drug charges (the crime) and child neglect. People forget their kids in stores and their laptops on top of cars, she was high and clearly paying no attention. She also shouldnt have her child because she is very very irresponsible but I dont think that this was anything more than a drug induced accident by an idiot who needs to get herself together and act like an adult.

This mother was under the influance, she entended to get in the car with her baby while under the influence and drive. That is illegal and child endangerment. Previous to that crime she put her baby in a car that was being driven by her boyfriend who was under the influence. She is careless and has no regard for her child's safety as she proved twice in one night. If the baby had been killed she would have been charges with manslaughter. She should not be allowed to be alone with this baby until she completes treatment for her drug problem. And should also be required to take parenting classes, after the child is returned there should be periodic visits by social service to make sure that he is being cared for properly.

there is no excuse for this that i can think of. if any one can think of a reason to leave your baby on the top of your car while smoking a fatty and driving, let me know okay? love you all!

not trying to be snotty here at all, but a possible outcome of this could have been that she killed her baby. and who knows, maybe he would have grown up to do very amazing things, like cure many diseases. but if he would have died, we never would have known. now lets just give him some time and let him tell us what impact he wants to make on the world.

Perhaps I misunderstood the article. Did she repeat her egregious act a second time? I understand that she might have killed the infant the first time, but is there evidence she didn't learn from her error?

Yes you do have a point, but she forgot her kid was on the roof.
What happens if she does not learn from her error,what happens if she does it next time and the kid dies.
I hope to god she has learned her lesson, for the KIDS sake!
At the end of the day you have to ask, why was she smoking pot when she had a kid with her.

Obviously, she was too immature to be a safety conscious mother. I have a problem with diminishing her capacity to learn and be a better parent by levying a severe fine or incarcerating her, for that punishes her child as well, albeit indirectly. There are no easy solutions with trying to govern parenting.

Its not easy,its hard being a parent.

I think what it comes down to, is what a friend of mine alway used to laugh about.

What we were saying was that, a accident can have unforeseeable events, ok not has bad has the deadly gas all over South Wales.
What turns X into a accident, and what turns X into something more than a accident.If we all knew that, we would be all better of and better people.

Although that one mistake could be an accident its still technically a crime, because she smoke pot and thats illegal...(well its illegal here in N.Z)

There is alot of neglect out there among mothers' fathers' towards their children. Intentional neglect ect. The mother has issues that need to be delt with...she trying to escape into drugs..How do you know, How many tears are flowing from her eyes over this? you don't!

I understand some people who refuse to obtain help to deal with life....should not have their children, where there is intentional abuse ect. I have known one woman to obtain help ..though she was not even abusive, and had her kids taken away. Then i saw another who was a horrifying person to begin with, hurt her children...and the authorities...keep giving her back her children over and over...The system out there for the children, is bogus...and need to be revamped in a big way...social workers.with their 1 year degree in social work..omg...there was a social worker here, that took kids out of homes left and right, then was seen kicking her 4 year old kids butt repeatedly down the street..


something needs to be done in all walks and areas in the help it field...now that is where alot of morons reside.....

i believe that some people should just not ever have children. in fact, in my perfect world, you would have to get a license of sorts to have child, and have a background check to make sure that you are well enough responsible to take care of another life. yeah you could stil have sex, make love, whatever you want to call it, but if you aren;t responsible enough for the child to be born, or don't have the tools to take care of a child after it is in the world, then you just shouldn't have one in the first place.
please, dont anyone tel me any differently, because this is how i feel truly. it makes the most sense to me. it may seem like part of a dystopian society at first, but if you just trust and think about it for a while, it really isn't! not that i am trying to force my opinion on you, because that isn't what i want at all. i just everyone to understand how i feel and why i feel that way.
