Postage stamps in the united states increased again from 42 cents to 44 cents. Americans should expect an increasing postage stamp cost every year, partially due to inflation, even as the internet makes most letters obsolete. Does the internet make letters useless?

I use e-mail a lot. I stay in touch with my family this way. However, there are just sometimes that a letter is needed. It can be more private which is sometimes a big deal. It can be permanent, which in my parents view, is priceless. (the letter I included with their gift last Christmas, thanking them for the raising I got, they kept and framed). E-mail is wonderful, but it cannot eve completely replace the letter, any more than the automobile can completely replace the horse (in temperate climates) or the sled dog (in Arctic and conditions).

Many, many people do not use email at all. For legal purposes, it is still necessary to use certified or registered.
