There may in fact be a pork shortage next year, according to an industry trade group out of the UK. Who or what is to blame for the shortage? According to the National Pig Assn. in Britain, "blame the drought conditions that blazed through the corn and soybean crop this year. Less feed led to herds declining across the European Union at a significant rate.”

Due to the shortage, consumers could expect to pay up to double for bacon, the all-time favorite pork product. Are you willing to pay a premium for the breakfast meat?

LATIMES.COM reports:
Might want to get your fill of ham this year, because "a world shortage of pork and bacon next year is now unavoidable," according to an industry trade group.

Pay more for meat that isn't even kosher? I don't think so.

I hunt feral hogs, so bacon isn't hard for me to get a hold of. It's not as good as the farm raised stuff, but I'm okay with that.

So let me get this straight...we're being told there is a WORLD-WIDE shortage of pork because there is a declining herd population in the EU. Wow, if I was China or some of the other Asian countries I think I might try to get a share of that market! I mean is it just me, or does pork seem to be a common ingredient in Asian recipes. Just saying....

NO.......Don't buy bacon/pork at high prices....!!! Supply and demand will lower the price
of the products to acceptable levels. Bacon; not the best thing to be eating anyway.
Maybe they do us a favor.............!!!!!!

As of yesterday, 9/27/12 they recanted that story and said it was a mistake. You really can't trust any form of media anymore. You could make up a bizarre rumor today, and if it's interesting enough it will be around the world by tomorrow. With the internet, and other forms of lightening fast ways of communicating, the world has become so much smaller. I have to check out any story I hear before I'll pass the info on to a friend or social media, it's too bad but that's the way the world is now. Like agent Muldur used to say, Trust No One. I'm really more trusting than I sound here, but you really have to wait and see when a big news story breaks, it's likely to change in a day or two.

I only buy it once in a while and when the price went up a buck I stopped buying it, so if it doubles in price I will start up a pig farm.

There's no pork shortage now or next year. It's just the industries way of saying "PORK YOU" to its customers. We're going to be just like our product " a bunch of greedy pigs".
