I often point out to people who love to vilify the church and mock priests that educators and relatives have a much greater percentage of molesters than any clergy.

..you are RIGHT! No religion is perfect, just like anything and everything else!

The catholic church is not worth a damn nor are any other religions, just an organization that cons poor people out of the few dollars they have. A friend of mine told a priest he was gay the priest condemned him. As if he doesn't face enough adversity he has to be put down by the only place he has left. Not to mention the countless deaths the church has been responsible for since it was founded. I went to catholic private school... I learned a lot.

Every group of people has some who do negative things. I'm a Buddhist, but I respect all religions and there is much about the Catholic Church to be admired.

I believe God did not appoint anyone to be a judge. We should leave judging to God and be sure our own lives are pleasing to Him. I agree with you Sister, about all the wonderful
nuns, priests and laity who have devoted their life to God and His service. You are among them and an inspiration here on Sodahead and I love you.

No religion Is perfect,they all have people who make that religion look bad,look at some of the Christian ministers who tell other people not to have sex outside of marriage,who have been caught with prostitutes,It doesn't mean that all Christian ministers do that. You should enjoy the good people In your Church and let god take care of the bad ones.

I dont believe there is a religoun that hasnt had issues...and the Evil One is behind all of them...Any soldier can tell you if you want to weaken your opponent, you start attacking the officers(priests and ministers) and create dissention among the ranks. my church..St Marys

I am not Catholic, and I may not believe or agree with everything they do. But I am still a Christian though (Lutheran), and many of my friends are Catholic. They're all good people, and I believe that the church has good intentions. There are always going to be good and bad in any group of people. You cannot define each individual simply by one label that they possess and share with another person (who may be completely different from themselves). So who am I to condemn them? It'd be quite unchristian of me to say such a thing (:

For the most part, I think that Christianity (or any other religion for that matter) is much tamer than it's made out to be. Again, this is Sodahead, where the crazies come to roost and stroke their egos to no end. It's tiring. I've had friends affiliated with religion and haven't had any arguments over that point.

I'm not Catholic, but I am a Christian. And using the same logic I use to defend my own religion, I believe the Catholic chuch in itself as good intentions, but there will always be a few members making bad names for it and perverting the truth

I just hope the good nuns and priest manage to make a better name for it than the bad seeds

There's good and bad everywhere, and in all walks of life.

There are good people in the churches who help others, while there are ones not good that get political and/or harm others.

Let individuals be seen for who they are by their actions....

I think I am a little smarter than that Sister Jean. I know garbage when I see it. I have worked with absolutely fantastic sisters, brothers, and priests. I am totally confident that the Catholic Church is in good hands.

I don't think that they do anything especially wrong. I'm an atheist, but I think everyone should practice their religions that they want to.

Back in the 80's I would sometimes give money to the Catholic charity Covenant House. They would take kids off the street in NYC and give them a place to stay. The man that was running Covenant House at the time was found to have sexually abused some of the children and was removed. I got so angry that I promised myself I would never give to that charity again.

After thinking about it , I realized that the only people I was really hurting by withholding my donations was the children and those still in the organization who really cared about them. The most innocent and most caring would be those affected the most by my anger. I broke my promise to myself and have continued to support Covenant house over the years when I can.

There are good people and bad people in every charity , business , or organization. It is a shame when bad people damage the reputation of a good organization and good people who work there. Hold on to the good. They still deserve to be supported.
