A flight from New Delhi, India to the eastern city of Patna was canceled after a medical test on crew members revealed the pilot had consumed alcohol. About 50 pilots every year in India are being grounded because they had consumed alcohol before taking a flight. The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), a body controlling airline operations in India, said dozens of pilots are found to have consumed alcohol during routine tests every year. Civil aviation rules specify that pilots and cabin crew cannot consume alcohol 12 hours before taking a flight. A pilot can be grounded for three months and can lose his license if he repeats the mistake again.

Think how many live...This worse than durnk driving, even though there may not be that much traffic up in the skies. I mean they have what about 100 seats in a plan. I say give them two years in jail, 10 years probation an let them lose their license. To me that sounds far, cause yea a car may kill one or two people an ruin a few lives. But a plan can kill about a 100 people an destroy that many more people just by the lost of a loved one.reply

Would they be flying if that were the initial "hiring" alcohol test?probably not. If you old enough to fly a plane you should have better sense than that.reply

- crsone 2008/06/26 20:33:30Temporary suspension: Give the pilots another chance.Looks to me as if the punishment is about right -- three month suspension and loss of license if it happens a second time. I believe in second chances, but only second.reply
