Having experienced immense quantities of both, I can honestly say mental pain is worse. At least physical pain is real, you know you're alive, mental pain can leave you numb and feeling utterly devastated.

I think they're both interrelated. But Mental pain is harder for other people to sympathize with because I'm sure it's different for everyone, so it must be harder to recover from.

Going through a depression - I NEVER want to go through that again. And I know there are many people who are in even worse straits.

I have had both types of pain as most of us have, and my vote goes with mental. The numb feeling is the worst. And you know it's bad if you feel the need to inflict pain upon yourself to know you are alive.

Physical pain can be overcome. It's very hard for mental pain to be overcome, if at all. I know there are some things from my past that I'll most definately never be able to forget.

I've learned to deal with physical pain since I have it often due to back/neck problems. But I don't think we can ever really learn how to escape from mental pain. Sometimes it's just too overwhelming.

Physical pain is mind over matter... deep breathing and meh.. it's nothing. But mental pain... finding that peace is difficult.

tough call. to me the worst ache I ever suffered was a abscessed tooth, (although a kidney stone was no picnic either) but those things go away after a while. the death of a loved one is another matter- that's an ache that never really heals.

For me, I have been in extreme physical pain for the past four years. That, in turn, has caused mental pain.

Thank God, that as of right now, I have gone three entire days in a row w/o and physical pain. I, personally consider that a miracle.
