We know some animals and insects use pheromones to attract mates. Do humans? One affirmative sign is the growing trend of pheromone parties, where singles submit a t-shirt they’ve slept in for three consecutive nights so that other attendees can pick the scent that’s attractive to them.

While shared interests are a turn on, all animals respond to certain scents (we are animals), and your odour has a huge bearing on how people will remember you and how attracted they will be. Sense of smell is also the only one that is connected to memories.

It's proven. It's the same reason that women are more likely to be attracted to stronger, more intelligent men. The brain has realised that it leads to better chances of advancing the species. And vice versa.

That being said there has been research on the subject there is some validity, but pheromones are produced primarily from the skin on the "groin" area, and as gross as it sounds the pits, maybe the top of the head as well but I cannot remember. Unless he is smelling her un mentionables, he aint sniffing no pheromones, especially with antiperspirants used by most today, also you produce the most pheromones when you are already under the effect of someone elses pheromones, she produces more, he produces more in response, then she produces even more in response, and so on and so on until the presure builds and they mate, that is how it is supposed to work and all though we do have that biology like other animals, we also have higher brain function and can chose to hit the break.

There are studies that have been done that seem to be saying that humans do indeed use smell to choose potential mates...the smell that you put off may be sending subtle cues about the genetics that you carry...I believe the study said that people may be more attracted to people with complementary sets of genes

While I do agree that someone elses smell is a turn on/off and when you walk by them if they smell good you'd look their way but I would not go voluntarily around sniffing other peoples clothes.

Well that much was obvious, everyone emits pheromones. If somebody smells bad to you, you probably are not genetically compatible. But I'd still rather not smell someone's old t-shirt. I mean, I sweat in my sleep. If anyone were turned on by that scent it'd be highly concerning.

To some degree, but if someone smells like a department store perfume isle, cigarettes or their lack of hygiene, ick. I'd rather someone I date someone who doesn't smell like anything at all.

Pheramones aren't the kind of smell you can pick up like other smells. We have special receptors in our noses that link directly to the parts of the brain responcible for emotional and sexual attraction - yeah, they live in the same place! We're human and it takes more than pheramones to make a relationship. HOWEVER, you hear people constantly say that they really, really like someone and have so much in common but.... there..is..no..chemistry... 10 guesses what that means and the first 9 don't count. This is also why people can't force themselves to change their orientation. If you're repelled by the pheramones of one sex and attracted by those of another sex you can't just change that because someone doesn't think you should be wired that way. Welcome to science!

We produce pheromones when we're attracted to someone, is the way I've understood it.

So why not just look for who you're attracted to? Then a relationship develops if you're compatible, & the sparks continue to fly.
