PETA Rips 'Trollsen Twins' for $17,000 Fur Backpack: Are You on Team PETA or Team Olsen?

The Olsen twins have created another unbelievably expensive backpack -- and this time, they've managed to incur the wrath of PETA. The People for Ethical Treatment of Animals slammed the "Trollsen Twins" for the almost $17,000 fur backpack they designed for their fashion line, The Row.

"If it looks like a troll and acts like a troll, it's probably a Trollsen Twin -- or someone wearing one of their new $16,000 totes, which are made from the fur and skins of innocent animals," PETA said in a statement to E! News. "What the Olsens lack in creativity, they try to make up for in shock value. Sadly, it's the foxes, calves, and alligators -- who often have the fur ripped off them while they are still conscious and able to feel pain -- who pay the dearest price."

Despite the price -- and the pain -- stylist-to-the-stars Rachel Zoe called the accessory "next season's staple item." We're not sure how many schoolkids can afford an almost $17,000 backpack, but we guess they're out there ... Do you think PETA was too hard on the Olsen twins? Or right on the money?

If we weren't meant to wear animals, then why are they made out of fur?

It's THEIR fur! Not ours! It's not ours to steal from them just for fashion.

    Good point!

People, get it straight! Animals are not people, no matter how many animated talking animals you've seen in cartoons!

Who are they, the spawn of Cruela Deville. In this day and age, we don't need to be killing animals for the sake of fashion.

that beauty can buy using the skins of some animals, only those carrying the death of these poor animals upon you, by buying these skins only encouraging more and more deaths of animals, if not the purchase are not hunted for their fur.

How would they feel if someone skinned them and made a purse out of them and sold it for money? Just for some rich bitch to wear it once then toss it aside? I've never liked them they've always creeped me out.

I have to side with PETA since in this case there is no practical reason to line a backpack with fur. What, is it to keep your food warm or carry an animal around? I think not. It is purely for appearance sake and to me that is not good enough. Even if one skins an animal to make a garment to keep oneself warm that does not seem right unless one has no access to other types of warm garments. Shearing a sheep by hand does not seem to cause an animal pain so I have no problem with that. If taking fur from an animal ever harms them,I am against that.

    PETA is a joke.

And the sad fact is they do as much, if not more, harm to animals as any of the groups they protest.

My favorite example and I can't remember if this was PETA that did it or another group.

Was a Mink Farm where they "freed" several hundred Minks into the woods nearby.

Workers then spent the next few weeks picking up the dead minks who had all frozen to death.

No wonder the backpack costs so much. It's got alligator fur!

I did not know alligators have fur. I thought they just had skin. That being the case, it is a cruelly insane thing to kill an alligator because its skin would make a pretty bag or shoes or whatever. That is just sick.

Second post, to separate the subjects. This one is more serious, just to spell it out for you.

Alligator farms raise alligators specifically for their hides and their meat. The hides are used for leather. The meat is used for food. They're used in a similar way as we use cows, just not on as large of a scale.

I did not even know alligator farms existed. I guess I am cool with that. Do you know how alligator meat tastes?

I haven't had it myself. At least, not since I was old enough to remember. I may have had it once or twice when I was very little.

But, I know that it being a reptile, it is very firm and lacks fat. It is very similar in that regard to chicken. And they being distant cousins to each other, they may taste similarly. I know some people do indeed say it tastes like chicken.
