PETA Rips 'Trollsen Twins' for $17,000 Fur Backpack: Are You on Team PETA or Team Olsen?

The Olsen twins have created another unbelievably expensive backpack -- and this time, they've managed to incur the wrath of PETA. The People for Ethical Treatment of Animals slammed the "Trollsen Twins" for the almost $17,000 fur backpack they designed for their fashion line, The Row.

olsen twins peta

"If it looks like a troll and acts like a troll, it's probably a Trollsen Twin -- or someone wearing one of their new $16,000 totes, which are made from the fur and skins of innocent animals," PETA said in a statement to E! News. "What the Olsens lack in creativity, they try to make up for in shock value. Sadly, it's the foxes, calves, and alligators -- who often have the fur ripped off them while they are still conscious and able to feel pain -- who pay the dearest price."

Despite the price -- and the pain -- stylist-to-the-stars Rachel Zoe called the accessory "next season's staple item." We're not sure how many schoolkids can afford an almost $17,000 backpack, but we guess they're out there ... Do you think PETA was too hard on the Olsen twins? Or right on the money?

Other than backpacks and clothing, the only thing fur's good for is holding animals together before they're slaughtered and headed for my freezer!. Why waste it?

I'm totally on Team People for the Eating of Tasty Animals! But since that's not an option and I have to select an answer...

But seriously, $17,000 for a bag?? One made of materials you can get permits to hunt for yourself? That's just ridiculous. Not as ridiculous as PETA in general, but still ridiculous.

Personally I think they should call themselves Mankind for Ethical Animal Treatment. ;)

See there we go, the fur backpack is screwed up but I don't agree with PETA at all, did you know say if you keep an animal as a pet you're enslaving it?

AND they go about it completely wrong. Like I don't really mind if you hold those beliefs, but you don't have to be a dick about it.

Seriously, it's a terrible thing to kill animals so brutally for stupid fur! Isn't synthetic enough? Yeah, they definitely deserve to be sued for that. Period.

Would you rather have the ecosystem depleted from the chemicals and plastics needed to make fake fur, and have animals overpopulate?
  • Michelle Ayami 2012/06/30 05:33:44

The problem with this isn't what's going on, it's who PETA is complaining about. If you're against the brutal killing of animals, you need to go after the people doing the killing, not the people who are a few steps down the line. Yeah, publicity helps, but it's not ENOUGH.

PETA can suck a big one. The bag is ugly as hell as well as everything else they're wearing, but the organization is so stupid and so busy yelling about this, they don't use correct facts.

I don't like PETA, but I hate the use of fur even more. It's selfish, cruel and unnecessary. People that design,, make and wear these products are disgusting. I hope one day someone decides to string them up and peel their skin off while they're still alive and kicking.

You do know they don't actually peel the skin off while they are still alive, right? Besides, Fur has been used for thousands of years, and no one cared until PETA came along.

They do its proven! No just kidding man, yeah funny enough people don't understand, lets say I killed a deer, then lets say I eat the meat and then make a nice coat out of its fur, hell I'm doing right by the deer making sure nothing is wasted. Many want to dissuade this as natural, I'm all for ending cruelty but this is pretty much norm, what is wrong is over hunting, besides that get over it.

To these wackjobs, animals are more important than people. I wouldn't mind if the entire staff of PETA was dumped off in Antarctica with nothing but summer clothes, rifles, and a bunch of deer in cages.

I guarantee there would be lots of meat and fur flying really fast. (And if there wasn't, there would be a bunch of frozen solid PETA members; it would be a win-win situation.)

Well thats fine, they need fur to live. The olsen twins DON'T. I don't mind the guy above either, making sure he doesn't waste the deer he kills. But factory fur farms, etc aren't right. It takes 200 chinchillas to make a coat. ONE coat. Their flesh is not eaten, so 200 chinchillas die just to satisfy some rich bitch. That can't be justified in my opinion. It's a waste. I'm not against people who use animals to survive, thats the natural order, thats how it's supposed to be. It's just not needed here anymore.
  • Aly Hart Colourf... 2012/06/30 13:50:51

Their money, their line. They can do whatever they want with it. I doubt they're losing any sleep over some crying vegans. How are you so sure that some furs aren't coming from animals that are shedding or already dead? Chinchillas shed every few months and especially heavily in the summer, for all we know they just decided to capitalize off it.Animal cruelty is terrible, but it doesn't mean I'm anti-fur,leather,and meat. The only issue is the treatment of the animals, so as long as they're being treated humanely and killed without pain, it's okay.

OMG. To make fur coats you need the damn Skin. LOL. Do your research. Most fur that is sold as legit, is imported from China. China have basically no concern for their people or their animals. Half the time, its pet cats and dogs caught from the street! Half the time they're skinned while still alive. They just grab raccoons, etc by the back legs, hit their head on the ground, string them up and start skinning, dead or not. I can assure you, they aren't killed without pain, and for the length of time they are alive, they are kept in small cramped cages. I have done my research into this, which is why I feel so strongly. I hate PETA. I hate people who expect everyone to be vegan, and want all animals to live in the wild. Those are stupid ideas. But the fur trade is disgusting. You may be told you're buying fur from acceptable breeders etc, but most of the time you are not. It's imported. Which means that beautiful scarf more than likely came from an animal that was tortured before it died. You can't make a coat from loose fur.-.-
Again, do your research. There's plenty of other organisations apart from PETA that have gone undercover into the fur trade. BBC have done it, and so many more.

that is China's problem, not ours. i don't buy chinese made goods, anyway. for instance, the fur liner for my russian greatcoat was custom made for me by a friend who's a trapper. and most, if not all of my leather goods were made in the USA.

I'm not talking about leather, and I have no problem with people who do it in a respectable manner, like your friend. It's not Chinas problem when it's sold in your country and in mine as 'Made in US, UK, whatever'. This is whats happening. Companies are getting lazy/want to make more money/demands high' and goods are being falsely sold. Which is why unless, like yourself, you know where it's coming from, it shouldn't be bought.

i don't think you got the point of what i said. We as Americans who have problems in our own country should not be worrying about the problems in another country.

are you also sure your hatred of Americans isn't just sour grapes, seeing as how we whooped your ass twice in history? (and could easily do so again)

Just fine. I could never afford health insurance so I guess it's better than dying on the street! I don't hate Americans. My best friend is American, and I have great respect for them and their Country. But the Americans on this website don't do their country justice. Sound like a bunch of Nagging Nancys, and you just sound like your head is up your ass. Which I'm sure it is.
