Oh yay! It's time for the War on Christmas!

I say Happy Holidays because it's inclusive. All you good Christians should try it sometime, you know, all that peace and good will towards your fellow man instead of complaining.

“WE” know that Christ was not born in Dec. was chosen by man bkz it was profitable (PastorMurry, Shepherd’s Chapel explains). BottomLine, Christmas was estab.around JESUS CHRIST-pagan’s didn’t like that so Santa was created & now they wanna remove Jesus so imma remove my $---I will 0 longer celebrate 12/25
To continue participating 12/25 is like plannin a “Celebration” around a day 2 dress, drive, stand in line, & spend my $ @ a restaurant that only tolerates "my kind" 2 eat there once a year. Analogy may be STRONG but the signific. is the SAME &, all of it has become both OUTDATED & IRRELEVANT 2 me. Should start a group 2 “celebrate” this day our way—maybe the last week of the yr. or1st week of the new year. The beauty of it 1)doesn’t interfere w/company structure 2)after 12/25, everything is up to 90% off.

I've always said Happy Holidays. My neighborhood was as much Jewish as it was anything else. Christmas wasn't their thing, they had their own holiday. So rather than confuse everyone in sight and do quick decisions we just said Happy Holidays and felt it was good. NOW, all of a sudden, people are getting all tweaked over it!

it's not being dictated to us. it's intelligent people, who combine a wish for the whole holiday season to be happy, with a realization that not everybody in this country believes the same things.

Happy Holidays is more accurate. First of all my birthday is an important date in its own right. 12/21, the winter solstice. Then you have Christmas, the Jews have their candle thing, and I am sure there are a lot others.

One must not forget that Christmas is basically a Pagan holiday. Jesus was not born on Dec. 25.

Anyway after my birthday the world may not exist. lol

too many people want to be Politically correct.. I think it's BS and if you don't like it, then move out of the USA.. There's some things that are just tradition, and today.. everything is you can't say this you can't do that.. It's ridiculous.. Some schools and businesses don't celebrate holidays, xmas, halloween, etc.. Due to offending someone.. give me a break..

I've never seen anyone get upset over "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Hannukah". You know what I do see? People getting offended over "Happy Holidays". Really, it's just something people say when they don't know what the other person celebrates.

Happy Holidays as I remember it, was a way of saying happy thanksgiving, merry christmas, and happy new year all in one. Thanksgiving started off the holiday season, which ends around Jan 2nd. That's how it was always used amongst my friends and family growing up, and I suspect others in our society use it in the same fashion. It's not a religious vs. secular thing, at least it didn't used to be.

The USA is not a christian nation, but a pluralistic and secular one. Our law is of the constitution, not the bible. If you want to thump, do it on yourself, but not on me please. I don't subscribe to it. And if I celebrate a holiday it's not because of any belief in the supernatural. It's usually because it's a good time to gather with friends, family and loved ones, enjoy some good food and good times before we go back to the grind of everyday life.

And by the way, Christmas was originally a pagan holiday, not a christian one.

No, Christmas was always Christian. See how the first 5 letters are the same in both words? Why would a Pagan celebrate Christ? You crazy guy.

I say "Merry Christmas" all of the time, and I am an atheist. I don't begrudge people's religious beliefs (or lack thereof), particularly during the time of year when so many different holidays are happening at or around the same time.

Furthermore, many families are of mixed religious backgrounds and celebrate...(you might want to sit down for this part, I don't want to be responsible for any injury you may sustain from fainting)...more than one holiday!

I tend to reciprocate what someone says to me, whether it be "Merry Christmas", "Happy Hanukkah", "Happy Holidays" or anything else. Do you know why? Because it's the polite thing to do. If reciprocating a greeting makes you uncomfortable, simply smile and wish that person a nice day. Is that really so hard?

Just wondering, do you also feel that Bing Crosby, a Catholic, was "dictating" his beliefs or in any way minimizing the Christmas holiday when he recorded the song "Happy Holidays" in 1945?

Right. I mean, other people celebrating other holidays around the same time that Christians celebrate Christmas is totally rude! Why don't they just change their holidays? It's not like they are as important!

Because a lot of cultures celebrate something during that time. Especially if you live in a region where a lot of cultures are represented, you might not KNOW what that person celebrates. It's just easier to go with Happy Holidays. If I know what they are and what they're celebrating, then I'll say something specific to that.
