Polydactyly or polydactylism is the condition when a lifeform is born with extra toes or fingers and, even though most of the time this results in a useless appendage with no bones, sometimes subjects are born with fully formed extra digits. Polydactylism has been observed in mammals, reptiles, and amphibians and is thought to be caused by mutations in single genes, not heredity (meaning that anyone can give birth to a child with polydactylism). The odds of being born with the condition are only one in five-hundred meaning that everyone probably knows at least one person with a little something extra.

Anne Boleyn (one of Henry VIII's 6 wives) had 11 fingers. For centuries, it was said to be the mark of a witch to have an extra finger. During the Salem Witch trials, people who had the condition were burned at the stake as suspected witches. It's a weird condition, but the meaning that people attached to it was even more bizarre.

Yes my GF in had two thumbs on one hand, and my sister-in-law has one extra toe on one foot. My GF sucked her extra thumb and the doctor told her Mom not to worry about it when she got a little older they would just cut it off. That is what they did. And she never sucked either of the other thumbs. ♥
