GDANSK, Poland – A top Palestinian aide accused Mitt Romney today of making a “racist statement” when comparing the economic vitality of the Israelis and the Palestinians, but the Romney campaign said his remarks were “grossly mischaracterized.” Romney’s statement, the Palestinian said, appeared to credit Israel’s higher income to cultural differences. “It is a racist statement and this man doesn’t realize that the Palestinian economy cannot reach its potential because there is an Israeli occupation,” Saeb Erekat, a senior aide to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, told the Associated Press. “It seems to me this man (Romney) lacks information, knowledge, vision and understanding of this region and its people.

Um. It was America that helped empower Osama and his al-queda tribesman by supplying weapons, training, and schooling during the Russia-Afghan war. We keep sticking our hands in other peoples affairs only to create a mess for ourselves. Similar to our dealings with Suddam Hussein and Iraq.

Gorilla warfare uses the same tactics as terrorists. Whatever! Our country has been playing with the the sovereignty of other peoples lives in the name of free trade and democracy for years. But I guess it will take another economic collapse or world war before we realize that our greedy way of life is going to come back and bite us in the end. I have a close friend, ex-ranger, that trained gorilla's for a coup as the US government was propping up a new leader. Let's not mention all the treaties the international monetary fund and world bank have their hands on. The governments wanted a global economy so they limit exports on countries like Jamaica. Then we wonder why they can't do better, for the most part they can't because they are bound to some type of treaty that screws them over and over.

How can Palestine thrive in any bit when they have no control over any form of trade. Are they even a country at this point? i think most people with slightly above average intelligence would not have made the comment he made. The irony of your comment is too thick for me to know where to start, so I'll just have to address something else entirely.

News flash: In general, Muslims hate Communism, partially for its atheism, but also for other reasons.

In fact, that's what the US seized on when the CIA deliberately radicalized the Middle East with Operation Cyclone, to fight the Soviets on religious grounds. That's when we trained and armed Osama bin Laden and propagandized the region to ensure he would have plenty of followers...beforehand, radical Islam was a fringe minority position. (It was a great move on the part of our glorious leaders, wasn't it?)

I think many individuals need a vocabulary lesson on what "racist" means. Here's a "racist"statement for ya' - maybe if Palestine and Israel would learn to ignore each other, everyone in that part of the world would be happier. I don't have to like everyone in my neighborhood, but I do have to respect them and let them live. I won't even touch that "Israeli occupation" thing. I want to, but I won't.

Romney did not mention how the Palestinian territories have historically been at an economic disadvantage because of their isolation at times from the global economy.

I would imagine that not allowing your women to interact fully in one's economy in itself would prevent an economy from growing within a world that allows women to interact freely. Women not being able to get a full education--- equal to that of a man, or use the same resources to get an education...also makes it difficult to compete with countries that do allow them to participate fully...
