The cost of a human wedding is sky-high these days, with Americans typically spending more than $27,000 on their big day. So would you really want to spend another $5,000 so your dog could tie the knot? Well, that's just what Palm Desert, Calif., residents Ernie Rubin and Ann Carter did for their pups last Sunday.

Rubin and Carter forked over five grand so their dogs, bride Scruffy Rubin and groom Snickers Carter, could get hitched at the Palm Desert Resort Country Club in front of more than 100 guests, The Desert Sun reports. No detail was spared. The pups had a wedding cake, open bar, reception, live band and "priest" performing the vows. The wedding party consisted of a ring bearer, flower boy, groomsman and usher/security, and Scruffy wore a custom couture dress, leash and veil, while Snickers sported a doggie tuxedo.

Does this canine wedding sound like a giant waste of dough? This might make you feel better: In lieu of gifts, Rubin and Carter asked for donations to benefit the Orphan Pet Oasis Humane Society of the Desert in North Palm Springs. At least some part of this extravagant wedding went to a good cause...

I have a job. I make money. They're wasting their money, is all I'm saying. Sure they can do what they want with it, but shouldn't they do something usefull with it ? Most of my money goes to my parents to help pay bills. The rest goes to my college fund. I'm not gonna blow it on my dogs wedding or new designer clothes. Sorry, but that's just ridiculous.

As I said, it is their money. They worked and earned it. They can spend it any way they please. I also took care of a parent who started loosing her memory in her 60's. She lived till 82. I paid for her care at my home till then, with no help from 8 siblings..

I'm not saying it's not their right to spend their money how they choose. I'm just saying it's ridiculous when you have people starving to spend $5000 on your freaking dogs.

If people are starving in this country, then blame our government for spending our money so foolishly. Obviously you've never took a good look or did any investigation into the foolish things the gov. spends our money on.Every now and then its on Fox news for every one to see. As for spending money on pets--in 1980 I spent 3200. on a cat. I earned it, I can spend it the way I want. For years I also donated to The Make a Wish foundation---did you?

Honestly it's stupid but it was probably more than just dogs getting married. Really it's just like throwing a 5000 dollar party, which isn't THAT ridiculous (It's crazy to me because I never would waste my money like that... but I mean, you know)

Geez, give the dogs some canned food and donate the rest of the money to a pet shelter or homeless shelter or children's home or any number of respectable charities. The people who spent this money on this "wedding" should be ashamed of themselves.
