The cost of a human wedding is sky-high these days, with Americans typically spending more than $27,000 on their big day. So would you really want to spend another $5,000 so your dog could tie the knot? Well, that's just what Palm Desert, Calif., residents Ernie Rubin and Ann Carter did for their pups last Sunday.

Rubin and Carter forked over five grand so their dogs, bride Scruffy Rubin and groom Snickers Carter, could get hitched at the Palm Desert Resort Country Club in front of more than 100 guests, The Desert Sun reports. No detail was spared. The pups had a wedding cake, open bar, reception, live band and "priest" performing the vows. The wedding party consisted of a ring bearer, flower boy, groomsman and usher/security, and Scruffy wore a custom couture dress, leash and veil, while Snickers sported a doggie tuxedo.

Does this canine wedding sound like a giant waste of dough? This might make you feel better: In lieu of gifts, Rubin and Carter asked for donations to benefit the Orphan Pet Oasis Humane Society of the Desert in North Palm Springs. At least some part of this extravagant wedding went to a good cause...

to see dogs poop for vows, screw eachother from behind, and the only refreshements are water and dog food is sooo not worth that much. we could do that behind a crackhouse.

They're DOGS, they don't care about any of that. The people are just doing it for themselves. Dogs don't need or want weddings. Dogs don't even form "romantic" pair bonds. They'll mate with any dog they can.

Why do you people think that people have a moral obligation to give away all their money to someone else? Do you give half your pay cheque out each week to charity? It's THEIR money and they can do what they want with it. OH and they DID ask for donations to benefit the Orphan Pet Oasis Humane Society.

The only great thing is that the benefits went towards the Orphan Pet Oasis Humane Society of the Desert! However, if it's what the name implies -i.e just rich pet owners dotting on their best friends- then even that isn't all that great. There's so many animals out there that need loving, caring homes...not a 100 guest list. :/ As a sidenote, they do look very adorable.

Nah! We were in San Diego on a cliff over looking the ocean. Sun Set Cliffs to be exact. Other than being very windy and cold, it was near perfect :O) The marriage is more important than the wedding anyway.
