The cost of a human wedding is sky-high these days, with Americans typically spending more than $27,000 on their big day. So would you really want to spend another $5,000 so your dog could tie the knot? Well, that's just what Palm Desert, Calif., residents Ernie Rubin and Ann Carter did for their pups last Sunday.

Rubin and Carter forked over five grand so their dogs, bride Scruffy Rubin and groom Snickers Carter, could get hitched at the Palm Desert Resort Country Club in front of more than 100 guests, The Desert Sun reports. No detail was spared. The pups had a wedding cake, open bar, reception, live band and "priest" performing the vows. The wedding party consisted of a ring bearer, flower boy, groomsman and usher/security, and Scruffy wore a custom couture dress, leash and veil, while Snickers sported a doggie tuxedo.

Does this canine wedding sound like a giant waste of dough? This might make you feel better: In lieu of gifts, Rubin and Carter asked for donations to benefit the Orphan Pet Oasis Humane Society of the Desert in North Palm Springs. At least some part of this extravagant wedding went to a good cause...

I say with absolute sincerity, every pet we've ever had in our family has been a loved and included member of the family. During Christmas, all the pets got treats in order to be included in the celebration. We grieved when they passed and were overjoyed when they had offspring of their own on occasion. Anthropomorphizing our pets a little is probably something most of us are guilty of. But this is absolute insanity.

Seems that the money could have been used in many more helpful ways. i.e. if these jackasses love animals so much, why not donate that cash to an animal shelter?

Hey now, not all of use Doggy lovers are Nuts. I love my Dogs they are my four legged family but there is no way on Gods green Earth that I would spend money like that on a "wedding" for them.

I agree I have pets but lately too many have lost their marbles and treat them as if they are human and that is just too strange. That couple is idiots and no way to defend them when you consider 29,000 children die a day from disease and starvation yet folks care more about pets, it is sick .

Well.. I can't say Im not a sucker for animals because I'd be lying out my teeth. Some people just dont look past their noses and the people that want to help usually can't afford to. I know I can't afford to do so offten.
