Owners Throw $5,000 Wedding for Their Dogs: Adorable or Ridiculous?

The cost of a human wedding is sky-high these days, with Americans typically spending more than $27,000 on their big day. So would you really want to spend another $5,000 so your dog could tie the knot? Well, that's just what Palm Desert, Calif., residents Ernie Rubin and Ann Carter did for their pups last Sunday.

uuu

Rubin and Carter forked over five grand so their dogs, bride Scruffy Rubin and groom Snickers Carter, could get hitched at the Palm Desert Resort Country Club in front of more than 100 guests, The Desert Sun reports. No detail was spared. The pups had a wedding cake, open bar, reception, live band and "priest" performing the vows. The wedding party consisted of a ring bearer, flower boy, groomsman and usher/security, and Scruffy wore a custom couture dress, leash and veil, while Snickers sported a doggie tuxedo.

Does this canine wedding sound like a giant waste of dough? This might make you feel better: In lieu of gifts, Rubin and Carter asked for donations to benefit the Orphan Pet Oasis Humane Society of the Desert in North Palm Springs. At least some part of this extravagant wedding went to a good cause...

Folks can spend their hard earned money how ever they like, but for me........ Pretty lame. I am sure the doggies involved would have opted for a donation to the SPCA, Animal Rescue Group or a various shelter for children and mothers........... imho

Glad to hear that part, but some usually = extravagant fund raiser end up with -0- to nil for the charity (animals, people)........... I never participate in those types of events, I generally check the places out and dontate directly to a "Facility". Like I said folks can do what ever they like, I just choose to opt out of those types of things.......

For 5 grand I will come over and bark and pant and sniff their butts, sit on some laps and be cuddled. That might be fun. Hell I might even do it for half that.

Wow, I guess they're too selfish and too ostentatious to be able to come up with a better way to spend 5 grand, such as donating to a battered women's shelter, a food bank or maybe even a fund for drug addicted babies.

No, I'd much rather have my name remembered as helping others, instead of how I kept up with the Finkelstein's.

    >>>battered women's shelter<<<
yeah, there are lots of "survivors" of "verbal violence" and "visual rape" out there...

    >>> fund for drug addicted babies.<<<
crack addicted babies or meth addicted babies?
  • Jacob DanC 2012/04/27 15:12:11

Supposably babies that had mothers that did meth or crack during pregnancy made the babies addicted..... 0_o I don't think so but that's my guess to that one lol

ANY or ALL of those. Shelters for Battered Women have helped many survivors far beyond those who suffered "verbal violence" or "visual rape." I've encountered women in shelters who had most of their teeth knocked out, bones broken, faces permanently scarred, and worse.....

Couple of cases of dog food to a shelter would have been nice..... Think of all the heart worm treatments and monthly medications that would have provided...... We adopted a heart worm positive beagle from a beagle rescue group. He is the sweetest little boy..................... I have it documented in my Trust, for a certain amount of money to go to the SPCA....... I think I am going to add a large amount for my little beagle friends!

Yes............ And I choose to donate to a charity directly........ Some, is not good enough for me, some "Usually" amounts to zippola for the charity and good food and drinks for the folks who attend! :+( If some/part meets your standards, then by all means feel free to attend and donate as you desire. I refuse to give to these types of fund raising venues........ Nuff said. And yes, I did read the article, I just don't agree with that type of method.........

People like that make me ill, all the people in this world who could use just a small helping hand and they are throwing away money on a dog wedding, I dont think you could get any more self involved then that because the wedding in reality is for them not the dog.

Proof that there is such a thing as 'too much money'. Genuinely find it disturbing that the majority of the world population are dying, and this kind of thing is going on elsewhere.

When I think of what that kind of money could do for our town food pantry of the animal shelter, it is really a shame. But it's their money, they can do what they want to with it, right?
