Oreo's Gay Pride Cookie: Progressive or Inappropriate?

Here's a new way to celebrate Gay Pride Month -- eat an Oreo cookie. Kraft Foods posted a rainbow-colored, gay pride-themed picture of an Oreo cookie on Facebook on Monday, with the text: "June 25 | Pride" and "Proudly support love!" And while 217,816 Facebook users had "liked" the post as of Wednesday morning, others are calling for a boycott, Reuters reports.

gay pride oreo

Among the 35,535 comments, one person wrote: "By (sic) Oreo. I'll do my business elsewhere!" Another commenter said: "thought Oreos were a family cookie." But fans wrote things like, "Very glad to support a company like Oreo that joins the campaign for civil rights!"

Basil Maglaris, Kraft's associate director of corporate affairs, told Reuters: "As a company, Kraft Foods has a proud history of celebrating diversity and inclusiveness. We feel the Oreo ad is a fun reflection of our values." But you can't buy this Oreo at your local grocery store. The fine print under the picture reads: "Made with creme colors that do not exist."

I really do applaud Oreos, I really don't get why people are getting upset. Those who are gay have fought as much as other minorities and still getting bad-mouthed and treated unequally. The idea is brilliant, yet sadly, I wish I could eat one :3 Also even though Oreo's is a family treat, I think the knowledge of diverse people such as the lgbt that are in the world is great for everyone of age in the family to know cause we are all one and equal. Homosexuals are just as sexual as straights, so everyone needs to stop being ignorant.

Technically there shouldn't be a difference, because both were born that way. So it should be the same as having pride for your gender, race, etc.
But the reason why people go around saying that they have gay pride rather than straight pride is because there are gay people who are NOT proud of being gay. I've said this to many other people on here who also wanted a heterosexual cookie. Claiming that you have gay pride is a way to show others that it's okay to be gay! For example, those who've committed suicide because of it. Those who were disowned by family, friends, etc. Those who were told that they were condemned. Since straight people don't have those problem (well, not solely because of their sexual orientation), why claim that they have straight pride? Until sexual orientation is treated and accepted equally, the pride stance will not be equal.

It's not special treatment, it's just celebrating acceptance.Hetero people are the majority, they've never faced discrimination,bullying,abuse... for being heterosexual.

If a company wants to support a specific lifestyle that's their choice. If you don't support that lifestyle then don't support that company.

Children love oreos. Children need to learn to love one another despite sexuality. This cookie is amazing. And people need to stop hate over stupid things.

I thought you said you were a Christian? Christian's don't speak like this or believe that. It's not hateful to believe something is wrong, especially if God says its wrong.

    1 Corinthians 6:9-10
9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

So, this Bible verse is stupid to you? What does the end of verse 9 say? God says practicing homosexual's won't go to Heaven, and you want children to learn that being gay is right and not go to Heaven? ...

Chose the narrow path, this broad road you're on isn't leading you to good things. Take that as a friendly warning.

You probably read a different Bible. I own three of them and it says: "The man who lies with another man as he lies with a woman shall surely be put to death". God loves ALL people! Why would he exclude gays? That means other HUMAN BEINGS would not except gays and put them to death. NOT that God would put them to death. For claiming to be a Christian, you don't seem to have the love of Christ in your heart. Go somewhere else, Pharisee. -_-

Oreo's were meant to support children and parents not gays. They shouldn't take a family oriented cookie and put it to support gays. Gays are taking over everything that used to represent children and are using it to support themselves. That's really selfish and it needs to stop.

Maybe you need to stop being so homophobic what has any gay person ever done to you? And the line you used "gays are taking over eveything!" So when you refer to those people you are very discriminating. Shame on you.

So in your mindless opinion, calling someone a "brainless toad" is just conversational.

In that case, go have a conversation with your mother. I'm sure she is accustomed to your acerbic personality.

Congratulations on arguing with a 17 year old I hope your proud of yourself. Your taking this too far now making insults about my mother. What kind person are you?

I guess you're that lonely that you have to assume that some sleeps around, just cus I mentioned can attract any gender. As acerbic personalities i'm not the one with that issue it seems like you're referring to yourself and my comment must have hit a nerve because it seems like it hit you brainless toad :P

Wow and to think after calling you a brainless toad you go ahead and call me mindless that took you 24 hours to come up with. Let me ask you something in any event at all? Did you think you were cool at any point at all because you're pathetic.

I'm a very happy person i might have had a baby at a young age, but i have one guy in my life and I'm very happy with him. He takes care of his son. So please if you continue making rude comments it will no long be considered an opinion more like harassing.

You are one of the many narrow-minded people that I wish didn't exist. Get over yourself. "____ are taking over everything!" has been said about Jews, whites, blacks, Mexicans, etc. Either provide a valid point, or be quiet. And it wasn't the gays as a whole that decided to use Oreos to support themselves, it's the people who own the company and actually make these cookies that did this, so go complain about your homophobic mentality to Oreos, not gays. With all that being said, either eat Oreos or not, no one's going to care. They have plenty of other customers besides you.

How is it selfish? Kraft Foods are not owned by gays, and they didn't put that up to support themselves, just equal rights. I doubt a gay pride group turned up outside the Kraft offices and forced them to make that. Anyway, who says it's a children cookie? It's for everybody, and if that includes homosexuals then so be it.

I think it will be gret for little kids to see that it's ok for diversity maybe they will grow up more accepting if they are around things saying its ok. Then maybe there won't be a problem with it. I love the idea and they also look really yummy.
