I AM SO VERY HAPPY FOR YOU AND YOUR LITTLE BLESSING, MATTHEW!

One Year Anniversary
It was one year ago today that my wife and I sat in an orphanage half way around the world and met for the first time the little boy that would be our son.
All I can say is that there hasn’t been a moment of regret. When I come home from work and I hear “dada” (and when he says it he drags out that first syllable in such a loving tone, “daaaada”) my heart just melts. Nothing else needs to be said. I enjoy every minute of his company. It’s been such an eventful and challenging year.
I wanted to pull out some quote from the journal I kept while in Kazakhstan, but I couldn’t seem to find it. But I remember the moment very well. I remember holding him and he grabbed something off the table, and that he had a strong grip. And when I lifted him up and he gave me a smile, I knew he was the one.
We weren’t allowed to post any pictures on the internet then, not until he came off their adoption registry. I think that was about a month or so later. But we can now. Here’s a picture of mother and child from that first day in the orphanage. I remember him being chubby but I had forgotten just how chubby. He was a fat little porker.

And then shortly after that first day– I seem to remember a week later – they sent him to the hospital for a week with Bronchitis. We were not allowed to visit him the whole time he was in the hospital. These next pictures are when we finally got to see him again. That’s daddy and son. You can see how bundled up they kept him.

Fast forward one year later and here he is in one of the cutest pictures I’ve taken. Notice too how on the floor he got a hold of Daddy’s car keys and one of Daddy’s ties behind him. Actually to be honest, I gave him the keys to play with. I’m such a softy. He just says “kee” in his cute baby tone and points and I can’t resist.

Look at those chubby little legs! And how can anyone resist that smile. :->
