Still plenty of pressure from family, friends and society in general to be in a relationship, married (w/ kids), etc. On the flip side, not everyone who lives alone wants to be alone.

I been doing the caring for me at home,even when my Dad was at the house,for 22 years.I can cook,wash clothes without shrinking them.and clean. Just can't sew.

32 million Americans is hardly a majority. I can see a trend in that direction, and maybe it will become the norm sometime in the future, but the norm has typically been a family unit. That can consist of as few as 2 people, but in most cases it will be 3 or more.

You are not fit to live with others until you have lived alone. 'Lived alone' = completely caring for oneself and supporting oneself for an extended period of time. Otherwise you have to learn the hard way all those things your caretaker did for you and you never knew they did what they did.

When I coupled for at age seventy with a woman of my own age, both of us had experienced life inside and outside live-in/matrimonal relationships. We easliy divided up responsibilities and can/do fill in for eachother as needed.

When you live alone in the comfort of your home,it more peaceful,you have have anyone to brother you and you don't have anyone to spoil your mood. Living alone to me you have your own independent,you not married so you can party the night away without having to answer to anyone where have you been. LIVING ALONE IS ABOUT HAVING THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE UNTIL YOU FIND THE ONE TO SPEND THE REST OF YOUR LIVE TOGETHER. THAT HOW I LOOK AT IT.

One person is not a family unit. Any idiot knows it takes more than once person to make a family. "Solo dwelling" just means you live alone, that does not make a family.

I love living alone, I don't have to answer to anyone about what I do in my own home. I can sleep late, eat when I want to and if I don't want to do the dishes I don't have to listen to anyone bitch about it.

Yes, it's the new normal but that is not the way "God" meant for it to be. People are moving away from the "Blueprint" of life,the "Bible",the words of "God"! "Man don't live by bread alone"! We as human beings need one another,living with a wife or husband you live longer. Now you figure it out!

Yes - - an outcome of the breakdown of traditional values, equality for the sex's, and media support for independent living, Sexual Freedom, Abortion, Birth Control.

There is no reason to be a couple anymore. Except for Tax Advantages, but only for the lower middle class. Many upper middle.. and upper class, it is actually a tax advantage NOT to be married.

Commitment to a relationship is less important... there is always someone else just around the corner.

51% of marriages end in divorce.

Yes... SHoH (Single Head of Household) is the new normal - or rapidly becoming so!

And that tax status requires "dependents" I believe. Those with dependents do not usually live alone.

Again another assumption that a concept is "new" when in fact it has been existing for many centuries. In the not son distant past many lived alone, because communication and travel were very time consumptive. Modern travel and communications have only been around a few hundred years, for centuries before a simple message could take months or years to deliver. So many just lived in solitude and enjoyed its benefits to themselves or congregated with others.

Here in the UK, due to the high cost of property, few low deposit mortgages available and ever rising rent prices the opposite is happening. Fewer people are living alone with many people buying or renting with a friend or groups of friends at it's the only affordable way for them to buy or rent somewhere.
