One Million Moms Upset About Two Women Kissing in Urban Outfitters Catalog: Totally Fine or 'Inappropriate'?

A photo of two young women kissing in the new Urban Outfitters catalog has upset One Million Moms. Well, not exactly one million moms, but the outspoken group that is "fed up with the filth many segments of our society, especially the entertainment media, are throwing at our children."

The group issued the following warning, according to The Advocate: "On page two of this catalog is a picture of two women kissing in a face holding embrace!" They're also urging their members to cancel their catalogs and threaten to shop elsewhere. "The ad and catalog are clearly geared toward teenagers," the group says. "The content is offensive and inappropriate for a teen who is the company's target customer."

True, Urban Outfitters is targeted at teens, but so are shows like "Glee," which have done so much for gay rights. One Million Moms previously failed to get Ellen DeGeneres fired as spokeswoman for JCPenney (because she is a lesbian). Do you think the group is right about this ad being "inappropriate"? Or do you think it's totally fine?

Some girls like other girls, not a big deal. Time to get over it. I'm a teenage girl, and this is nothing I haven't seen or done myself. I have friends that are lesbians & bisexual. It happens.

    Go lesbians!!
    woooooooo

Edit: One of my best friends I have known since I was 4 years old is a lesbian and she & her girlfriend are perfect for each other.

    OMG who the hell cares
This is a non issue. Or at least it WOULD have been a non issue if a certain group of people would remove the sticks from their asses and get lives that don't involve constantly complaining about something.
Really? They think that's "filth?" It's not like they are butt naked, sweaty and going at it like baboons! They're KISSING for god's sake! Sheesh.

First of all the catalog is not intended for children, if it was a children's coloring book then this group would have a valid argument but as it stands they don't have a leg to stand on.

Lesbians do exist, it's not a secret or something to be hidden. So why try to hide it from the young? There's nothing wrong with opening their minds and making them more accepting and tolerating.
    Yay for Urban Outfitters! (:

It's fine. Homosexuality is part of life, and no better or worse than heterosexuality. Best to just get over it.

Do you think the same way about heterosexual couple kissing on advertisements then? Because technically they wouldn't be "necessary" either.

You're right it is not necessary and I don't think in advertising it is seen very often!

You really think that? One very popular advertising technique is "selling sex" mainly among the teen generation. So of course Urban Outfitters has pictures of people kissing or showing other signs of PDA, I suppose it's supposed to make teens think that they will be accepted if they dress like that and find love that way, which makes their clothing more desirable. It's super common... I see half naked models all over for clothing stores like holister and abercrombie which is ironic, cuz they're hardly wearing clothing at all lol I guess you may just not see if as much if you are not apart of my generation because that is mainly where it is pointed.

Being lesbian/gay/bisexual isn't something you choose to be; did straight people consciously CHOOSE to be straight?

Far from it. And I don't really like the pale dress on the right, either. The blue looks more like something I'd wear on a beach in Hawaii.

Filth? It's a kiss... and not even a heated one.

In any case, that group is a bunch of morons, and they've proved that about themselves time and time again. I'd feel sorry for them, but they're a bunch of hateful bigots, and I just haven't the energy to waste on such people.

It's offensive for that group to say "...the filth many segments of our society, especially the entertainment media, are throwing at our children" in referring to gay people. Bigots. Seriously, who cares? Does someone launch a huge campaign anytime anyone kisses? Filth? Last time I checked filth is the kind of people who stand up against this kind of thing. Teenagers are generally more progressive than adults, they're not complaining (quite opposite for straight guys and gay women).
