One Million Moms Upset About Two Women Kissing in Urban Outfitters Catalog: Totally Fine or 'Inappropriate'?

A photo of two young women kissing in the new Urban Outfitters catalog has upset One Million Moms. Well, not exactly one million moms, but the outspoken group that is "fed up with the filth many segments of our society, especially the entertainment media, are throwing at our children."

urban outfitters two women kissing

The group issued the following warning, according to The Advocate: "On page two of this catalog is a picture of two women kissing in a face holding embrace!" They're also urging their members to cancel their catalogs and threaten to shop elsewhere. "The ad and catalog are clearly geared toward teenagers," the group says. "The content is offensive and inappropriate for a teen who is the company's target customer."

True, Urban Outfitters is targeted at teens, but so are shows like "Glee," which have done so much for gay rights. One Million Moms previously failed to get Ellen DeGeneres fired as spokeswoman for JCPenney (because she is a lesbian). Do you think the group is right about this ad being "inappropriate"? Or do you think it's totally fine?

Some girls like other girls, not a big deal. Time to get over it. I'm a teenage girl, and this is nothing I haven't seen or done myself. I have friends that are lesbians & bisexual. It happens.

    Go lesbians!!
    woooooooo

Edit: One of my best friends I have known since I was 4 years old is a lesbian and she & her girlfriend are perfect for each other.

I wouldn't say totally fine, it's probably something that doesn't have a place in a clothing catalog, but I've seen women kiss all the time, it's no big deal.

The look really awkward though, lol.

Having gay people accepted like any other random fella automatically will make a country 'gay'? Jesus.

That must make America an ignorant country if there's enough people like you ho are accepted despite your ignorance.

I'm not gay. I'm just not an ignorant douchebag.

So.. Slavery was just fine a couple hundred years ago, black people were dirt. We should still hold onto those values because 'you can't change the world' though right?

And if you make a 'homosexuality doesn't exist in nature' argument then google is your best friend and you should educate yourself.

And people take the Bible as moral guidance... kind of illustrates why the decline in religion has gone hand in hand with moral and ethical progress.

Sorry, God is the author of not only salvation, but Moral Law as well. People themselves are the blame for the downward spiral in the use of their free will to ignore moral law or judgement.

Moral and intellectual progress has generally proceeded *in spite* of religion, rather than because of it. Why is that? It seems to me that in the long sweep of history, the less we have to do with religion, the better we treat each other. It could be just a coincidence... correlation rather than causation... but I'm not so sure.

What is "intelligence" without moral law? You say "proceeded", that sir depends on your definition of "procession", if by procession you mean the disavowment of moral law in favor of one's own (self or group) identified law as an abdication from God's established moral law than perhaps "in spite" might be exactly the correct word choice. If you admit that moral law exists that it would be eviscerating to ignore that so to does a moral authority.

Second, you really shouldn't make sweeping generalization that really aren't accurate. The need to worship is as intrinsic to our human experience as birth and death. Anthropological studies have proven this and there are well document case studies that span the globe which corroborate this, to say otherwise is purely speculation and eisegetical contempt for reality.

1st of all, who are you attack someone because they refuse to submit to your twisted minority agenda? Volume and persistence do not make you right!

2nd, One man, One woman is not only the tradition and institution that was created by God (which by the way has worked for well over 2k years!), but it's also the basis of society. When Marriage is weak (same-gender unions being called marriage for example); society is weak. If you need proof look at Scandinavia where nearly 80% of births happen out of wedlock, youth are more likely to drop out of school than to graduate, more likely to get arrested, more likely to have teen pregnancies, more likely to develop life-altering level addictions to hard drugs, etc Sure sounds like what we want more of here!

People love to point to something like this and proclaim SEE SEE!!! Guess what, these examples ALL come from the OLD TESTAMENT....they are also all used by the bible as examples, not proclamation or endorsement. The OT is Christ concealed, the NT is Christ revealed, but when you have a non-believer reviewing the bible eisegetically and without context I suppose this is the sort of confusion that might happen.

Sick way to indoctrinate the masses. If they see it enough in all forms of media, they will accept it as the norm. Not me! This sends a sexual message to young people who should not be subjected to it. The millions of mothers have every right to be upset!

You're a teenager, you know all the answers. Since when do you need enlightenment? If you would have read my comment you would have understood that I'm not about to argue with a child about moral or social issues based on your time and experience on this Earth. I guess teenagers DON'T know everything after all. Don't feel bad, I was a know-it-all teenager once -- I understand.

Religion probably started that way too. What lie am I believing? That being gay is ok? That isn't a lie. Was Hitler gay? Don't think so. Was Stalin..? Noope. Find me any evidence other than what's in a book written by MAN that states being gay makes somebody evil or a sinner.

Grace to you, glory to the big bang.

Actually, "religion" is only a dogmatic collection of belief and practice. The lie you are propagating is that being gay is ok, it's not in fact, it's a sin that will cause you eternal separation from God. There are many, many, many, deceptive and bad things in this world that are bad and sinister to which you may not even be aware, Hitler and Stalin were unquestionably agents of Satan but I'd be surprised to learn you really believe just short of mass-murder and totalitarian rule everything else in existence is without sin.

The very idea of sin is God-created so to go to a source beyond God's word would be like looking in a history book for a calculus equation. Considering that over 6k dates, persons, cities, artifacts, temples, places and events have been confirmed in documentation by anthropological, seismological, geological and astronomical studies for a "book" that was written by over 40 authors across 3 continents over 1500 years, I'd say your disapproving perspective is little more than baseless conjecture.

While you personally may not believe, agree with or even care about the bible it's authenticity doesn't hinge on your approval of it! Oh, and your "Big Bang theory", for one is only a "theory", for two is no longer accepted within the serious scientific community ...
