As long as they arn't doing drugs and they arn't showing up to events drunk they are still people and should be able to do those things. Just because you're an Olympic athlete doesn't mean you can't do normal things.

I don't see why it is that we need to push some kind of puritanical ethic on everything we do. Most of these athletes are consenting adults. As long as it's legal, what's the harm?

While at the Olympics, representing their Country and their sport, they should behave in a manor that sets a good example to others, especially the youngsters who will be following them and making them heroes. It's a short period of time for them to keep their vices and 'debauchery' under control!

Many Olympians are minors, some gymnasts as young as 12 years old. There needs to be a strict code of conduct for all.

Sex and legal drugs, not so much. If they want to do that and they are ok with the consequences then why would I tell them they can't. I would tell them it better be their secret. Performance enhancing drugs shouldn't be allowed, but these people have trained for years: sacrificed there lives for this possibility. I don't think they'd make it this far. They are humans. As long as they aren't stupid about drinking or use an illegal drug, I don't see why they can't take the edge off of the competition.

its not about giving up sex and booze, its about putting it on hold till your part in the games is over. they are allowed to go out and party once their events are over for the games. its about representing your country with a bit of cooth. if they want to go over there and party up, screw anyone anywhere, do drugs, then buy a ticket and go over and watch the games . do not partisipate. your there for the games ,and the partying when its over. not to party while awaiting for your event to come up. your country helps pay your way and in appreciation for the helping hand to get there, they should make their country proud. win or lose doesnt matter.

sure they can do that. but at the games your not there to represent yourself alone, your there to represent your country, who has possibly forked out to get them there. pay accommodation food, the lot. so if they want to party go for it. but do it after your part in the games is done, or dont partisipate at all..

Why should they be, if the normal population is not? We have these higher than normal aspirations for people tht we 'look up to' when in fact they are us incarnate.

because for the duration of the games they are not looked at as normal population. if they represented themselves not their country, and paid for all their training, coaches, travel, food , the lot. no helping hand no sponsors ,pay out of their own pocket then yes, by all means. if they want to get on the piss or do drugs go for it. but while someone else is paying their way then they should follow a code of conduct. its like if your boss sent you O.S for work. do you expect to be able to party up before your work is done, or do, it then party.

This is a tough question. Many of the athletes are not 18. In the U.S. I think the minimum age is 16, but other countries have different rules. I suppose there shouldn't be any standard set of rules, but I would like to think that basic human morality would keep them from "partying" with kids. I hope they enjoy themselves and compete well.
