Olympic Speedo Couture: Chic or Tacky?

There's a growing trend in fashion to create couture gowns out of non-traditional fabrics -- and this latest design blows all the rest out of the water. Pun intended. A team of designers created a vibrant floor length dress out of leftover fabric from Team USA, Israel, GB, Australia, Germany, Spain, Japan, Canada, and Netherlands Olympic Speedos. The Speedo-couture gown is flattering and made to sculpt the body, but it is also functional -- designed to "withstand swimming." What do you think of the dress? Is it chic or tacky?

COCOPEREZ.COM reports:
This is different and extremely creative. Co-founder of From Somwhere, Orsola de Castro and University College Falmouth graduate, Rebecca Jayne Taylor recently created a floor-length gown made completely out of Speedos.

I think it looks wonderful! Like stained glass. It's a beautiful effect, and a great look. If you ignore the "Speedo" element of the design, and look at the actual dress, it's stunning.

Anything that detracts from the body of a beautiful woman should be thrown in the garbage.

It's interesting, colorful, and functional, I think it looks unique and I happen to like it. Would I wear it....probably couldn't even afford it.

    I don't think it's a stupid idea, but it's not conventional.

My exact current posititon. Once again, you are stuck dealing with idiots. And not even a good comeback, on the humor level **or** on the literal level. I must add ("like your birth". Was your birth an ideal in itself? No. Did it happen "these days"? No.) I agree with you, Valerie, and I'm going to use some third level sarcasm I know 'Emmy' won't understand: "Emmy's birth was a bad idea in those days."

Beautiful, but there should be a BMI limit. More than 3-4% body fat, and you are prohibited from buying... fat women in spandex
