President Obama may have gotten desperate according to The Atlantic Wire. They suggest that Obama needs to inspire the young people to vote for him and get re-energized about his campaign, that has otherwise failed to inspire anyone. President Obama has a history of drug use, which would make discussing drug usage a dangerous subject for him compared to Mitt Romney.In 2004 George W. Bush's re-election campaign worked to put anti-gay marriage ballot initiatives up for vote in several swing states in order to turn out more hard-core conservatives to the polls. This year the question is whether marijuana legalization measures will turn out young voters for Obama.

He did last election, I don't see why he wouldn't lie again this time around. Have people really forgotten his promises made in 2008? Sad really. Marijuana should have never been made illegal by the federal government in the first place. Just another situation where the very people we elect to protect us, create filthy lies to profit off our suffering.

It is not to get young peoples vote it is to make good on a promise that he would try to do something. The Republican attitude is what brought on the high education costs and the huge debt we were in by spending on credit. Don't dare call him wrong after the Republican record..

While I believe that pot should be legalized and that America needs to get over it's strange and hypocritical taboos, no president will ever actually touch this. The war on drugs is political currency for both sides of the issue.

Absolute nonsense, the president's a pragmatist who has essentially governed as a moderate for the most part and is going into what's likely to be a close election, to suggest that he would try and legalize pot just to drum up support from the younger generation is laughable. The article basically implies that he's desperate and that this might be some kind of a last ditch hail Mary campaign stunt which is far from the truth.

Actually, they can't. If those drugs are illegal under Federal law then the states can not legally legalize.

really it does not seem like it is working too well they are still trying to knock California's laws...if the Federal government does not make it a law few states will try to do so on their own because they know it could be devastating to businesses that started up around it.

He's been trying to make all these election moves, like pulling all the troops out of Iraq/Afghanistan (Which is a lie, he never pulled all of them out, I still have a few friends over there with hundreds of other troops), Supposedly killing Osama Bin Ladin (I still need proof, I think they claimed to have dumped his body in the ocean to avoid giving proof) and soo many other things, if he gets desperate enough, he will claim to make weed legal if he gets elected again

Legalization initiatives may turn out the youth vote which will go more for Obama than Romney, but Obama will not endorse marijuana legalization.

The article states: "Unlike the gay marriage votes, there's no indication that Obama's re-election team is behind any of the pot legalization initiatives, but there are Democrats who are hoping that it will boost turnout among weed's biggest fans: young people."

I don't like your limiting choices, but if you look at the history of 'reefer' madness, there is a strong link to the develop of rayon by Monsanto, and the push to make marijuana illegal. I think now, the drug companies probably push hard to keep it illegal. After all, where would be the profit for them?

Well Fef I wish you would have offered a choice of 'other'. I think Obama will anything and everything to try and be re-elected. He is the most unethical, lying, worthless individual I have ever seen occupy the White House. No, not what I said. You chose the option "he wouldn't dare" but he did in 2008. He promised the federal government would leave the marijuana decision up to individual states and not intervene in medicinal dispensaries but he lied. Cali and Washington businesses have been slammed dispite that.
