President Obama may have gotten desperate according to The Atlantic Wire. They suggest that Obama needs to inspire the young people to vote for him and get re-energized about his campaign, that has otherwise failed to inspire anyone. President Obama has a history of drug use, which would make discussing drug usage a dangerous subject for him compared to Mitt Romney. In 2004 George W. Bush's re-election campaign worked to put anti-gay marriage ballot initiatives up for vote in several swing states in order to turn out more hard-core conservatives to the polls. This year the question is whether marijuana legalization measures will turn out young voters for Obama.

He did last election, I don't see why he wouldn't lie again this time around. Have people really forgotten his promises made in 2008? Sad really. Marijuana should have never been made illegal by the federal government in the first place. Just another situation where the very people we elect to protect us, create filthy lies to profit off our suffering.

I say he does it. He already has changed his stance on gay marriage, and illegals, and many other issues he was against when he was spreading his manure about change. I could post numerous videos where the man has contridicted himself but I think anyone with a brain already knows that.....

For the better part of the last 46 years I have asked many why it hasn't been legalized at least for medical use. The idea that marijuana leads to other drugs only proves that only addictive personalities will go on to other drugs.

The gay marriage issue was carefully felt out using senior administration statements first to gauge reaction before Obama took his stand. The latest policy on young latinos who were brought here illegally as children is carefully crafted to be not a resolution to the immagration problem but a sure sign to the latino community that Obama looks out for their children. Obama knows he has already lost the votes of staunch 'conservatives' in those areas. If he believes he can gain more votes than he would lose by a policy change on pot it will happen. The unfortunate thing is that these policies appeal to moderates, myself included. Barack fiddles as Rome burns.

Not sure about cannabis, but the real October Surprise that would reach young and old alike would be a hit record (in the parlance of the Baby Boomers). The "Let's Stay Together" by Barack-Al-Tina (The BAT Trio) could be the one. If you find it to your liking, please "like" or "Rave" -- and share liberally:-) http://youtu.be/kFOC1oFXe8w

How did you link young people voting for legalization of pot with Obama? During the election campaign Obama promised to back off and allow the states to handle this specific matter and not long after he was elected, resumed the fascist drug policies of his predecessors and went after several legal (state-wise) dispensaries in California. He lies like the rest of the candidates.

In order to help make marijuana illegal, the AG of the time said "When a white woman smokes Marijuana it makes her want a black man" ,funny stuff huh. Check out "The History of Marijuana"

Obama and Holder are going to create civil unrest in some fashion and in October the surprise will be to declare martial law as to put an indefinite hold on the election. He then will turn our nations security over to the U.N.. The U.N. at that time will have total and complete power over all of our armed forces. Right now you are witnessing the making of Americas first dictator.

For the last fu@*$&g; time, Obama can't just legalize marijuana or any other drug. It has to go through the Supreme Court first, and the chances of that happening by October are slim.

Only Congress can make or repeal laws. The best the Supremes could do would be to declare the federal anti-marijuana laws unConstitutional and that's about as likely to happen as the Sun rising in the West and setting in the East.

He can't. All he can do is issue an executive order to cut off the DEA and make them put it low on their priority list. He could also promise to veto all bills Congress passes that increase pot penalties. But it's up to the states to legalize it.

The President has no reason to feel desperate. Mitt Romney will get increasingly so as the fall campaign drags on and he is exposed as a phony Conservative with no workable plan to fix anything in this country. If anybody tells you that Mr. Obama wants to legalize drugs, you are listening to a liar. At most, a decriminalization policy may someday emerge during his second term. I would support that wholeheartedly regarding marijuana. No, I no longer smoke it. Haven't for decades.

It is not desperation it is simply one of the things he said he was going to look at when he was running for office the last time. As usual he is trying to live up to word given which he has faithfully done since he has been in office. I say GO O! Good for him having the balls to do something about a situation that should have been rectified a long time ago. With that happening billions of dollars of taxpayer money will be saved and drug enforcement can work on drugs like heroin, meth, and cocaine/crack instead of destroying lives for an arrest record for such a trivial thing as a bit of pot. So I say i fit is true then he is living up to his word as usual.

The President doesn't make the laws, so even if he thinks weed should be decriminalized or legalized, it wouldn't matter as he is not given carte blanche to make and pass laws on his own. It would require an act of congress...those asshats who do nothing.

Where do you come up with these ridiculous fantasies? I know that your base here on Sodahead (aka people who never care about reality but just insist on reposting Right Wing talking points no matter how stupid they are) buys anything that attacks their own country and their own government, but don't you at least have enough self respect to at least TRY to make the lies remotely palatable? Even putting aside the fact that the majority of Americans support legalization of marijuana, the President has never even suggested a blanket legalization of marijuana

They did not think he could pull off the health care issue either..don't ever count Barack Obama out..he will come back to surprise you. He is a very intelligent man of the people and that is why he is so hated by the Republicans.

He isn't liked because he hasn't come through on one single promise he made before he became POTUS. The healthcare plan is crap and the bailout stuff was crap. The guy is a liar like any other politician period.
  • TrudyGirl Erok 2012/06/15 16:07:39
    TrudyGirl
You are wrong and he has kept many of his promises and is still trying to make good on others. Are we still fighting in Iraq? Is there a plan that has already started to get us out of Afghanistan? The health care plan is not crap it is a really good start and he said it would have to be tweaked; before the plan low income families often had no coverage and no preventive medicine. The fact that the low income can have medical care is wonderful as is the fact that pre existing problems do not count not on your insurance. I was diagnosed with MS over 30 years ago and as a single mother there were times that I had no coverage and neither did my children. I had problems if I changed jobs with new insurance.

So get over your Republican attitude and just be quiet if you don't have anything good to say.

He's got to do SOMETHING to get back the young people's vote (after all, they're sitting around in debt and unemployed after college; may as well give them something like "hope and change")
