I believe it is unconstitutional because it excludes a specific group of people on the basis of a religious definition of marriage.

Marriage has been many meaning over the course of history on this planet and even the church has presided over same sex marriages in history.

Sorry, marriage was around long befor you god was ever created. Christian ans no other religion has no right to the work marriage either.

While the church father, Augustine of Hippo, presented marriage as an important sacrament of the Christian Church in the 5th century CE, it wasn't until the “Sentences” of Peter Lombard, in the middle of the 12th century, that marriage became a part of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Christian Church.

Jesus did not create the definition of marriage and religion does not have exclusive use of that word.

Did I say Jesus created the definition of marriage? Marriage was happening before Jesus was born. I'm sure it will continue to happen till he comes back...

The constitution talks about equality for ALL citizens. DOMA takes that equality away.

It needs to be taken out of the equation, so no one has a compalint. The only reason the Government got involved in marriage was to make money from the license and from the legal income of divorces. Marriage never belonged in the legal system, especially since marriage was always a union of a man and a woman.
  • Muskoka Ken 2012/06/11 06:03:02
    Muskoka
Marriage has NEVER been simply the union of a man and a women.

Until the 1400's the church presided over same sex marriages in Europe and they were also common in Greek and Roman society as well.

The efintion of marriage was only defined in America under DOMAN in 1996. So there has NEVER been only opposite sex marriages in history at all.
  • Ken Muskoka 2012/06/11 12:58:08
    Ken
Marriages belong in the hand of the churches and out of the hands of government, governments should only have the right to legalize civil unions and provide the divorces they will bring.
  • Muskoka Ken 2012/06/17 17:06:57

Who make that rule about marriage and the church?

Marriage was around long befor churches were. No one has ever said that churches had to conduct same sex marriages either. That has never been the intent of changing the law.

We have same sex marriage in Canada for over 8 years and the churches have made their own decisions. Some do and some do not.

The decisions is up to the couple themselves to find a suitable arrangement. It is that simple. Some clergy will not marry in the church itself, but are willing to use an alternate venue such as a park.

My gay friend does the same job as me. Please tell me why his life partner
does not get insurance benefits from the company?

I believe my gay friend works and buys into the system just like my wife and I,
and his life partner deserves the same insurance benefits my family receives.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Not being able to marry who you
chose as a life partner is BS!

    ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Every couple has the right to marry the partner of their choice. Gays do not have that right and they do not have the right for their partner to have access to over 1200 laws specifically for married people as well. That is NOT equal rights at all.

    Heterosexual have SPECIAL rights.

Two people of the same sex can not get married in most states and receive
the same employment benefits as my wife and I.
Some businesses and counties in the US have made moves to extend benefits
and property rights to same sex couples.

Hopefully DOMA will be history soon, because it is unconstitutional.

You just said, "Two people of the same sex can not get married"

We ALL have that condition set, but everyone can marry a person of our opposite sex. Equal Rights exist for everyone on that.

Asking to marry your same sex is like asking to marry multiple wives or marrying your pet dog. It would be a new, special "right" that no one currently has.

"Asking to marry your same sex is like asking to marry multiple wives or marrying your pet dog. It would be a new, special "right" that no one currently has."

Wrong. Polygamy is illegal and dogs cannot consent.
Homosexuality is legal in the USA. Homosexuals can buy homes,
get jobs, live together, and adopt. Believe it or not homosexual
families live in the USA. Homosexuals have a hard time getting
family insurance plans because they are denied equal rights.

It's just like you people to throw out extreme nonsense to justify
    your blatant ignorance.
