I have been using my Compaq Presario for over 3 months now only due to f***ing up the pins on my desktop PC's Phemon II 1100T ($350 down the drain).

I still haven't worked out the while advantage of even enabling a touch pad.

Well I'm a general noob at Ubuntu and can't disable my toouchpad without the same module disabling my USB mouse.

No poll choices, just looking for a general view on things.
You!

My dad bought it for me on Amazon. It was not my fault.

If I was going to buy it, I would just buy an iPad.

What I use - the desk top Mac, here at work and at home - nothing in my opinion beats it.
BUT - I use the Mac laptop with the touch pad mouse, it takes getting used to, but I'm ok with it. Now, my children have Ipods, I've used those. They're small, but manageable.
For the first time ever, in about 20 years or so, I am using my first non-Mac based electronic device. My kids got me the Amazon Kindle for Christmas. It's ok. It's a bit bigger than the iPod. The screen is nice. I've watched a movie on it. When it comes right down to it - I hate touching things over and over with my fingers. (no pun intended)

I never caught the mac fetish, I've always been IBM PC or Amstrad. DEC etc.

The one thing I loved on mac was the track ball... that large ball moved by the palm, it worked like a mouse kind of up side down.

I don't either... back in the 90's they locked up a fair bit when using Photoshop and Flash etc.

I know Windows had many Blue Screens Of Death but nowhere near the level that mac had.

I have always used a Mac... when I sit at the only PC in the office, I just end up staring at it, I have no clue what to do. ;))

i use the touchpad on my laptop instead of a mouse, and it's not all that great ... i have a hand-held device that has a touch-screen and i'm not a big fan of if when it comes to typing out letters ...

Does your handheld connect to your laptop via bluetooth etc?

My main problem is that on my laptop I removed the embedded Windows 7 and installed Ubuntu Linux instead. All the drivers work but I can't independently disable my touchpad when my external mouse is inserted and unable to get my USB keyboard to work.

Being that my laptop is well above lap height on my computer desk I keep bumping my touchpad when I type hence selecting and overwriting text, my browser going back pages and losing all I type.

the hand-held things can connect via bluetooth but i've never done it ... i'm one of those guys who uses things pretty much straight-out-of-the-box and would no sooner remove windows and install anything else than i would try to swim from california to australia. i don't usu have any trouble with inadvertent typing errors caused by the touchpad (except on the new handheld thing, which i am still learning how to use; it was a recent gift).

ps - so far the only complaints i have about windows 7 and its accessories are that i don't like the GUI in Explorer and Paint as much - I'm having to learn them all over again, and it slows me down.
