I'm not really all that concerned about what other people do in a private situation. None of my business. I agree that the individual states should decide these types of issues and the federal government should stay out of it.

First let me say...I am NOT religious, and personally, I don't care what people do behind CLOSED doors....that said, even though I have a gay brother, and a lesbian cousin, the whole gay thing makes me gross out a bit and I would rather not see it in public...but people spitting is gross too, but I deal with it. That being said....I believe that gay people and non religious people should have civil unions...that hold as much legal weight as marriage. however, have some dang respect for the religious people and stop cramming the gay marriage down their throats. They believe, right or wrong that marriage is between a man and a woman, AND homosexuality is a sin according to their bible...so a legal union between same sex couple should be done outside of the church and be given a different name. EVERYONE should be respected in this situation. Want separation between church and state? Then simply give the gay people equal rights and let the bible thumpers keep their marriage sanctity. Good grief.....so many crybabies crying about people violating their rights while they stomp all over someone else's....

Personally, I like to sit in the middle of the bus in the isle....safer. And this has nothing to do with the topic. It is about everyone wanting to cram their beliefs down other peoples throats and wanting tolerance, while cry-babying that you don't want it done to you and not being tolerant yourself. Ditch hypocrisy.

Your making the assumption that marriage is a institution of the Church. It's not. It's a institution of society. In places where Christians never were there was marriage. Marriage certificates come from the state, the government, not the pastor. The pastor's power to marry you or anyone else comes from the state, not his church. It's why they say "the power vested in me by the (insert state name)" and not "God" or "the Church". Also Civil Unions were designed long before the Gay rigths issue and were designed to be less then a marriage for people who did not want the binding contract that marriage is. Now people want to make it the same as marriage which is assine. So now our laws books have to have two seperate instituitions and laws for them, these two institutions are exactly the same except for a matter of sexual orientation? Thats moronic and redundant.

i don't really see why same sex marriages are a big deal, people like who they like. so just legalize it in all states and get over it already.

NC is not lacking in love, its wisdom and knowledge. So LGBT will educate them through civil rights actions through the courts. The 14th amendment recognizes all citizens regardless of their orientation, States are specifically forbidden through it to create laws that would deny equal protection and representation of the laws, this includes laws that govern "marriage". We'll see.

i guess one day we might be around to witness youngsters getting married as the marriage laws in the United States begin to change.....it will also change the BURKA laws, as people begin to "whine" next about discrimination in marriages!!! Wont it be EXCITING! the little LGBT Lesbian, gay and transgender kids wearing burkas and getting married in their early 8-10 ages? wow.....it really will be something!

Not sure how changing the definition of marriage from 'a male and female of consenting age' to 'two adults of consenting age' will cause any of that....

    stevegtexas@aol.com
sure it will. because once you start changing peoples ideas of what marriage should be, then most likely....(but maybe your right it may not happen) religious groups will start to change the ages for your underage daughter or son to get, "married" into their lesbian, gay, transgender, or NEW "non-gender" lifestyles.....and honestly, that concerns me.....

Those are the same arguments that were made about inter-racial marriage though. When it was against the laws in most states, changing it bought forth the same arguments: "If you allow different races to marry, then where does it stop? Kids, multiple spouses, animals... Marriage is what it is and should not be changed because a few want to." Same thing now. Allowing one consenting adult to marry another consenting adult doesn't mean society will be okay with kids marrying or people marrying pets. It just means all adults will be able to marry to the adult they fall in love with and wish to commit to.

Rights to visit tying partners, death benefits, health benefits, gov. benefits, laws that protect spouses if someone dies with no will, property transfers, tax filing, etc. Heck, even protection in cases of divorce. If a non-married couple splits after 20 years together where open stayed home and raised kids and took care of the home, that spouse has no legal right to alimony, etc. right now. In many states, even one parent will lose custodial rights if the other was a birth parent, despite the child being raised as their own. Why? They weren't married. If a couple wants to take the risks and make the commitments, they should enjoy the same rights and privileges.

i agree. most straights arent exactly converting to LGBT lifestyle (lesbian, gay, transgender, bi-sexual)..... but theyre changing or attempting to change the marriage laws....should be interesting about 20 years from now when the next issue is about Burka laws and the little LGBT kids whining about age "discrimination"....... Those, "non-gender people are the BEST!!!! always giving law makers something NEW to think about! 2012
