Spend as much as you like on your fancy morning cup of Starbucks, but instead of helping you keep your eyes open during that boring presentation from Neil in accounting, at best it’s just going to keep you from getting joe sick.
In a recent study of habitual coffee drinkers, researchers at England’s Bristol University found that because drinkers build up a tolerance to the anxiety-producing and stimulating effects of caffeine, not only does the first cup of java in the morning not provide a pick-me-up, it actually just gets you back to your regular level of alertness, but no higher.
Even if you feel like that cup of coffee or tea is giving you laser focus, it’s actually just reversing the fatiguing effects of acute caffeine withdrawal.
Do you think coffee makes you more alert?

With coffee: awake.
Without coffee: either asleep or devoting all attention to not falling asleep so that I don't even remember what the professor was teaching even when I was "awake"
Double shot of espresso into a cup of strong drip coffee.
MMM, MMM good!
