How long could you survive without the internet? One day? One week? One month? Paul Miller, 26, is trying to live without the internet for one whole year. So far, Miller has been offline for 3 months. He hasn't sent an email, clicked a link, sent a text message, or used web browser since May 1st of this year.

The ABC News article goes on to say that Miller loves the internet. However, he is also aware that the internet is a giant distraction and he wanted to unplug for a while. Miller states, "I found it very distracting and I wanted to spend time studying and writing uninterrupted. I wanted to read books that I could have read at any time, but instead I was reading Reddit. I wanted to write things I wanted to write for a long time, but instead I was tweeting." Do you think you could survive without the internet for one year?

ABCNEWS.GO.COM reports:
For one whole year Paul Miller will live without the Internet, and as of publishing this article, Miller has not been online for three months.

Once my internet went down for a week, I felt like having withdrawal from my online world. A gaming community that me and a friend built from the ground up, almost every day it needs attention or else the members will start to overthrow it and eventually it would die without administration for a certain period of time. After one year, it would just be a graveyard.

ground attention members overthrow eventually die administration period year graveyard

What was promised to be the super highway has been nothing but mostly lies that every nut job thinks is gospel truth. Very hard to find the truth but as we know most ppl really don't care about the truth and are too happy to send the garbage on to all the stupid people they know. Paul Miller may feel like he is out of the loop but really he now is having a real life. I am rather jealous of him and hope he enjoys his new life. We did Not have PC's. nor cells (leashes) in the 60's and we were able to stop a unjust war, got civil rights etc. etc. without this silly ass dumb thing. PC's are not used for what they were supposed to do and that is a pity !

I'm exhausted from having to use the internet so much ....but it's necessary for advertising purposes.

My favorite website is FAB.COM. There is a lot of cool stuff on there. People are amazingly creative these days with all the technology we have at our disposal. Lots of cool stuff to buy and enjoy!

Although my generation grew up without all the distractions the WWW has to offer, I find myself on the computer at least an hour or two per day. That's a lot of wasted time. I realize younger people are constantly either on their i phones or laptops but this is their "thing". I hope it doesn't cause all the damage doctors and researchers are saying it does: Lack of social skills, lack of an active life, etc.

As a research tool, I would have a difficult time. For anything else, no problem. My love of technology is eequal to my despise of how it is used- Despite my job requiring me to be connected, I refuse to be tethered. It's because it distracts me from living my life in THE REAL WORLD. I find peoples use of it to be invasive, abusive and outright dangerous to others. Somewhere along the way Arthur Clark's vision of "Technology as an enhancement of life" has become the opposite- "Technology has become a substitute for getting a life" .- a society where the sheep place technology ahead of individualism.

I definitely could. Sure the Internet is fun but I still remember how it was before the Internet an I'd be perfectly ok going back.

Most of us who have lived in the non-internet era could readjust. There is a growing generation who would fall apart. Checks? Paper maps? No smartphones? Phone books? Waiting for the Post Offiice?
    Insanity would prevail.

Let them fall apart and be made to learn how to live with out this silly PC. How sad they do not know how to read a map, use a phone book and drive anywhere without a silly GPS. I met some of the nicest ppl around the country since I would have to ask directions at times.
Those wedded to their silly toys lack social graces that is for certain. They have no idea how to hold a conversation an to think they will be the elected officials some day. God save us all.

I did it for about 20 years of my life, it would be an adjustment at first, but I could do it.

I think I might even be better off for it.

... honestly NO!!!!!! I have unplugged from FaceBook and life improved. I will admit that sending letters, writing checks, going to the bank, etc. might be cheaper; however, I do a great deal of research on-line and save a lot of time, effort and money.

I'm not much of an internet buff and only spend 2 hours a week online so not to hard for me so instead I ask if I could give up something of equality to me for a year (games console) and I don't think I could do that so kudos to Miller

My job alone requires the use of the internet. Now, if push came to shove, of course I could survive, but the internet has become a part of everyday life.

That would be probably hard, as I currently use Internet at work - for links, information, professional contacts. I would have to work about six to eight times as much, if I had to come back to the typewriter, to manual work, etc., and would need to consult hundreds of books to collect all the information needed for the job.
