I'm sure it will be just fine. If anything she will be scrutinized more so than her male colleagues, at least initially, and will have to surpass the proving grounds.

As for the general consensus of the players? Certainly they would not risk six, seven or eight figure contracts because they could not play well with others. They probably have more self security than that.

Only the beta males on the field or in the stands would thoroughly object.

how un-American for you to say such a thing. and what sports do YOU like?
The more intelligent answer would be to say that you don't like the sport, but to say something like that only serves to polarize you from the majority as the total percentage of Americans who like NFL football exceeds 60% of the American Public.

I already knew your opinion on the matter. What I'm looking for is a good reason why a woman shouldn't be allowed to be a referee. I said a GOOD reason, by the way. "You don't see female refs in the NHL or umps in the MLB" is not a good reason. I guess I'm not being fair, because if she is good at what she does, then there ISN'T a good reason why she should be denied a job she earned. Women can do things besides laundry. Get over it.

Only for this reason: it is not because they are incompetent, but for their own good, they will suffer a lot of criticism and hostility and sexism from the workplace which will always exist in that sports world. Unless they were extremely thick-skinned, I think they would be happier being ref for women's sports

criticism and hostility and sexism will always exist unless there are women out there willing to challenge it and stand up for themselves.

It will always exist whether women stand up for themselves or not, so if they think becoming refs for male sports will change anything, they will be sadly disappointed

It's worth trying to fight for something you believe in (i.e. equal opportunities) than being a defeatist who'll let people walk all over her because she doesn't believe people can change

Well good for them if that's what they believe will happen and they want to do that, I have nothing against it. I'm just being realistic, that doesn't mean you have to start accusing me of being a "defeatist who'll let people walk all over her". I think that's a bit over the top. There are many more things in life than being a female ref for a male sport. It is not the end of the world. But people will believe whatever they want to believe so go ahead and do whatever you want, that is just my warning of what is to come.

I didn't call you that, I said that women who'd want to but didn't are. That is an accurate discription of what a defeatist is.

Newsflash: a lot of women already suffer a lot of criticism and hostility and sexism in the workplace. Besides, what other people think about you should never stop you from pursuing your dreams.

I don't need the news flash, everyone already knows that. and yes that's all good in inspirational motivation but in reality not many people are tough enough to put themselves through unnecessary pain just too ref males instead of females. What's wrong with being a ref for female sports? Is that not good enough for them? They can do whatever they want, I'm just saying for their own benefit (not talking about pride) they would be happier and better off being ref for female sports. Sad and unfair I know, but that's just life, and we may as well accept it and move on. The world is not fair, and it never will be

gets up?? you act as if every women who would be a ref is going to sue for harassment or get hurt? Have you seen the fat old refs in football? and the ones who apply arent going to be dainty schoolgirls who are fragile. The NFL with its lawyers definately have things in their contracts to prevent such things geez dude get a grip

I don't agree. If a female can't play in the NFL, they shouldn't be refs. Maybe I'm too traditional. I don't even like female announcers, when half of them don't know the game, especially hockey.

I don't see how the sex of the officials matters.

As long as one knows the rules, has working vision and hearing, and is able to perform the other duties required, it doesn't make a lick of difference if it's a man or a woman.

Figured this was the best place to do this...

OMG I can't believe some of the things the "No" voters are saying in the comments. It seems like a confluence of Forrest Gump's mama and Twain's saying about removing all doubt...

I'm just gob-smacked by some of this crap.

More referees to choose from means less worry about a labor union strike by the refs
