As long as they went through the process and are American Citizens and understand the language I wouldn't think there should be a problem.

For sure. Just get here and commit a crime. Time to go back enough problem with citizens born here we need no more criminals.

its probably not too easy for an immigrant coming to this country with no family or friends.... i would imagine, very difficult? i know i wouldnt want to have to do it without any friends or support types of groups, etc.....

I see your point but, they are here to stay. The business class declares that immigrants do the jobs we won't do for $7/hr. Yay or nay?

i think youre right, but i dont think other countries do or ALLOW the same principle if an American were to move or relocate to their country in politics or law making. 2012.

Here we have interpreters in all the court rooms. What pisses me off is people who can't speak English get to have There case heard first so a lot of people who DO speak English act like they can't so they can see the judge first. I think it should be the other way around. Learn the language or don't become a citizen, if your an illegal ship their ass back where they came from.

They get screened well, so I'm sure if the lawyers thought so, they would not be picked to be on the jury.

Well I suppose if you enter the country ILLEGALLY and never invested enough energy in citizenship to LEARN THE LANGUAGE you could have difficulty with our legal system.
Think of the poor jurors who have to try to understand these idiot's, but of course it's the jurors responsibility to learn Spanish isn't it?

Well Steve if they were legal immigrants they would already be able to READ, WRITE, and SPEAK basic english along with have a general knowledge of our history and government. These things are required by the Naturalization Test they are give when they apply for citizenship, hell they are even given verbal questions to answer in ENGLISH so don't buy into Liberal Media spin on this issue. If an immigrant being tried in court cannot understand or speak the language he is either Illegal who hasn't taken the Naturalization Test or a criminal who understands exactly what is happening and is using his status as an immigrant and our stupidity to escape justice.

No. They should not HAVE TO learn Spanish. The immagrants should HAVE TO learn English. Period.

well....not for courtrooms....otherwise, they would be stuck like chuck. How else could you solve the legal dilemma without having an interpreter?
  • Mechelle stevegt... 2012/05/24 21:41:15

True story, A Mexican girl went in front of the judge and had been told to get a drivers license and insurance. When asked ( in Spanish ) if she did what the judge told her to do she said NO because she didn't have a car and so didn't need them. Even though she was caught driving several times she was told not to drive anymore and sent on her way. A white kid, who was in court for having his music to loud got a five thousand dollar fine. First offense. Is that fair? They don't need an interpreter, they won't get in trouble anyway.
  • raine stevegt... 2012/05/24 23:37:56

send them back no interpretation needed...

If they don't know English well, it will be problematic. Plus, not all immigrants come from systems that use one like ours so they might really feel lost.

Probably, even if they speak passable English there are procedures and words they probably aren't familiar with, that may make them seem like they're evading or acting dumb to stall, not normally a crowd pleaser with juries or judges.
