Familiar scents can transport us down memory lane to special places and times in our lives. But would you really want to smell like one of your favorite cities?
If so, Scent of Departure, a new fragrance line that captures the scents of twenty different cities around the world, may be just what you need to travel the world via your sense of smell.
At first we were a bit skeptical about the whole idea. Destinations like Los Angeles, London, and Istanbul are certainly filled with many memorable fragrances—but some of them quite unpleasant. Even those that aren’t particularly offensive may not be of the type you want to spray on your body.
Fortunately, Scent of Departure seems to be focusing on the most pleasant aromas found in these metropolises. “The air infused with the sweet smell of lilacs in Central Park, with intoxicating perfumes from passersby on the Champs-Elysées, with clouds of spices wafting through Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar . . . Snapshots of the most spectacular cities in the world captured in just a few bottles of perfume,” explains the company’s website.
Probably the best feature of this new fragrance line is the packaging. Each bottle resembles a checked baggage tag and is labeled with the particular city’s airport code—CDG (Paris), DXB (Dubai), TYO (Tokyo), etc. As such, each $45 bottle is part perfume, part collectible souvenir.
So, SodaHeads: What do you think about Scent of Departure’s city-centric fragrance line? Brilliant or bad idea?

+1But last time I checked Disneyland isn't exactly classified as a major city...let alone a city itselfreply - Torchy 2012/06/04 01:46:02 (edited)Bad IdeaI live in Los Angeles, where sometimes you don't want to breathe the air because it's nothing but smog. Why would you want to smell like the city? And what DOES it smell like? Roach Coaches and exhaust?reply

- lolitalovely 2012/06/04 01:31:45Bad IdeaI know I would never buy it. Most of New York definitely does not smell of lilacs. The 3 times I've been there have yielded not even a passing scent of lilacs. I will say I went in early spring and mid-fall. It's kind of a fantasy scent line. "What we wish the city smelled of all over." I would prefer Kenzo Amour that costs only a few dollars more.reply

- Pele Emerging 2012/06/04 00:51:33Bad IdeaOf course, they want to capture the good smells, but big cities are too full of nasty smells, too. The aroma of Tacoma--a combination of pulp mills, industrial waste and sour tide flats comes to mind. LOL!reply
