Nell Carter was born a Catholic but converted to Judaism. Sammy Davis Jr. was born to Catholic and Baptist parents and converted to Judaism. There are some Christians who state that those who convert to Judaism cannot be saved? Are they wrong?

Having said all that, the conversion from Christianity to Judaism, in particular, seems a quite odd one. It is safe enough, I suppose. The Jews are the chosen people of God, however the burdens of living are somewhat more strenuous. One would still be accountable for the commandments of God's Christ, which includes the Shema, and adds, "love your neighbor as yourself", but also would then be reverting, and taking on Levitical law which was intended only for those of Jewish birth. It is a conversion that is unlike any other you could come up with.
There are Jews, who wish to keep the practices and traditions of their Jewish heritage, and so continue to practice passover, rosh hashana, chanukuh etc., but also understand and believe the fulfillment of the Jewish scriptures in the incarnation of Jesus Christ. This one has always made more sense to me.

The Jews are born to Jewish parents and are brought into covenant with God through tradition and ceremony. There are some rabbis who say that Jewish conversion, (short of marriage of a gentile to a jew, which the orthodox among them discourage), is not really possible in the way that we think of "conversion", like say an Episcopalian becoming a Catholic, or a even a Hindu, becoming a Muslim.
Christianity is the fulfillment of the Jewish prophecies. There are Jews who believe this, and Jews who do not. But either way, they are cut from the same cloth. Christians accept and believe all that the Jews accept and believe, PLUS that the promises of God have been fulfilled. So to say that a Christian is now a Jewish, is to say that they have gone from understanding the scriptures to have been fulfilled to now denying the Messiah. Unless they are Christian Jews (not an oxymoron), which is a rapidly growing number of persons.
This is a real toughie. I would have loved to have sat down and spoken with Sammy and really gotten deep into what his reasoning was. It fascinates me to be honest.
Sammy Davis Jr did not need to convert for his career. He was doing very well before.
Nell Carter? Looking at her IMDB listing I see steady work from 1978 until her untimely demise in 2003. When did she convert?
As always, Irish MUST bring his/her hate and bigotry into everything.
