I don't know if Tumblr will be the successor but with Facebook starting to charge $1 to send messages to people who aren't your friends AND with more and more information coming out about how they sell your personal information....I think it is fair to say people will start migrating to other social networking sites.

The faster and higher the rise of a lot of these social media sites - the swifter and harder the descent as they fail to diversify into other income generating services or goods, before they get replaced by the "next big thing'.

The internet always has been shaky ground and it is always changing, businesses rise to greatness then fall to despair at the whim of the crowd. Think back 20 years ago, 10 years ago, I can think of very few if any websites that have maintained the same greatness they had back then and can think of even more who have went out of existence completely.

Facebook will go downhill.

However, Tumblr is not for interacting with people you know. It's for interacting with those around the world that have similar interests.

A lot of people use it to talk to family/friends who are in a different country. which makes so much sense because It costs nothing. Most people have tonnes of pictures on facebook too, there's too much on there to leave the site!

Well, I mean, yes it could, but not because of Tumblr--Tumblr tends to be a very different medium than Facebook. I avoid Tumblr because it's one of those weird corners of the internet where people can just get sucked in for hours without realizing it.

Tumblr is way better than Facebook anyways. I never liked FB because of all the drama.. when I am on Tumblr I feel more accepted and can be myself. I connect more with my followers and we can blog/talk about our interests.

Yes, I am fed up with the intrusiveness that FB requires for you to even use it. I am fed up with the number of things that cannot be done without using FB as a medium.

Edit:
I am fed up with the fact that FB does these things so that I cannot even access it and I usually end up shutting my computer down to get away from it.
