Monokini Swimwear Trend: Hot or Not?

Forget bikinis! When it comes to swimwear, monokinis are all the rage this season. The popular style takes the two-pieces of a bikini and connects them via the middle torso with a small amount of fabric or chain. Due to their peek-a-boo style, many refer to monokinis as cut-out one-piece swimsuits. (The distinction really seems to come down to personal preference, as well as to the amount of material connecting the two parts.)

monokini

As the weather has heated up, tons of celebrities have been spotted in monokinis: Sarah Hyland, Rihanna, Kim Kardashain, Paris Hilton, and Snooki—just to name a few. And celebrities aren’t the only ones wearing them. The sexy look has won over many women who would never wear traditional one-pieces.
monokini

Still, not everyone is supportive of the monokini trend. Socialite Life website deemed them “fugly” and called for an end to their production. Kelly Lynch wrote: “I get that such a design looks sexy in a heavily photoshopped shoot, but to prance around the beach thinking you’re hot sh*t in one does everyone a disservice . . . Nothing’s as glamorous as a well-cut bathing suit or a flattering bikini. Stay away from the monokini!!!

What do you think SodaHeads? Are monokinis hot or not?

You just need the right body for it. I look kinda bad in any bikini top that isn't a halter top. Others look horrible if they're not in a string bikini. All about the body shape.

But then, I'm not a slave to fads. Ironically, I designed something like this from some leftover fabric my mother had when she made me a swimsuit...about twenty years ago.

I think they'd look ugly on the average person. Rather like thongs.

I think they're hideous. I'll stick to two pieces. Who'd want tan lines like that?

I believe I prefer the original monokini from the 60's. Or, if that is simply too revealing for the prudish among us, the simple string bikini will do nicely for my tastes.

I think is a sin to cover a work of art with excess swimwear material.
woman are a beautifull work of art, fine functional design, monucular structure and down right pretty to look at

I see large-breasted women, like that second one, without photoshop, having to deal with massive sag, and forget moving around and having fun in it.

I saw one girl at work today, all natural too. She was thick, and nice. And by thick I mean she had it going on. My coworker was telling me she was fat but I didn't see anything wrong with her because she was proportionate where she had a smaller waist.

In and of themselves bikinis are not hot. They're just tiny strips of oddly cut fabric.

It's the body you wrap them around that is hot, or not.

But if the body is hot, why bother covering it at all?
