Mom Claims Chuck E. Cheese Promotes Gambling Addiction: Should Chain Ban Arcade Games?

If you're like us, you probably begged your parents to take you to Chuck E. Cheese's when you were a kid, and you may have even had your birthday party there.

Well, today's kids may be out of luck, if one mom has her way and shuts the whole place down.

San Diego mom Denise Keller has filed a class action lawsuit stating that the kiddie restaurant chain is operating illegal gambling businesses, Capitol Weekly reports.

But before your mind conjures up something out of "The Sopranos," consider that Keller is taking issue with what she describes as kiddie versions of slot machines, which she believes violate state and federal gambling laws.

"It’s just pure random luck in terms of spinning out a result," Keller’s attorney Eric Benink said. "That, we believe, is a slot machine as California penal code spells out."

An overreaction? We'd say so. But as every parent who's ever had to shell out coins knows, those games are a huge waste of money.

Do you think Chuck E. Cheese's should ban arcade games?

Are you kidding me, first they want Ronald McDonald fired and now they go after ChuckE. These parents need to take responsibility for THEIR children and stop looking for someone or something to blame.

Some parents are just anal. If you are going to consider Chuck E Cheese as teaching children how to gamble, then do you realize how many other things in the world that are exposed to your children can be considered gambling as well. These are things that not many people would think about until someone who thinks too much comes by and ruins it. Freaking everyone out and making them worry about the things that will cause your children to gamble of all things.

Card games is like gambling. Taking chances at things in life... thats gambling. Dating someone, marrying someone, or befriending someone... all gambling. Guesses and Estimates... gambling. Trying to figure out whether or not going Left would be better than Right. GAMBLING!

A bunch of childrens games at a Chuck E Cheese will not kill them. Usually they will always get something out of it. Its not like its spending money and suddenly its gone! They can get food, tickets, fun, games, and prizes. If anything, Chuck E Cheese encourages children to do well in school so they can get free tokens and games when they come back! Therefore, helping to make a better future for the child!

People need to chill out and stfu... There are worse things to think about. Dont worry about your kid gambling right now... worry about keeping them in school and off drugs and drinking, and YOU AS A PARENT NEED TO STICK TO DOING WHATS RIGHT INSTEAD OF WORRYING ABOUT CHUCK E CHEESE!

Dude, I loved Chuck E. Cheese's. It was the greatest place EVER! And the games are the reason for that. This woman is insane. Just stay away from the place, but don't ruin it for everybody.

This woman needs to pull her head out of her ass and be a parent. Don't like the games don't let your kid play them, don't like a restaurant don't take your kid there. Why do some parents think EVERYONE wants to parent the same way? She may not like those games, but I and millions of other parents don't mind them. Why should our kids have to go without when she can more easily just ban HER KID from playing.

The last thing we need are commies trying their best to bring down another multi-billion dollar industry that employs millions of people. They need to tax American Indian casinos, though, either that, or cut off all the welfare and social services to tribes and members of the tribes that operate the casinos.

No games are fun. And so what if a kid wins a few tokens or tickets? They are used to trade for cheapie toys at the counter anyway. It's not "real" money.

I hate that Hell hole, but really?!!! Gambling? Talk about a stretch. They are games and that is all. Stop reading into everything, you booby. If you do not want your kiddies to "gamble" do not take them to Upchucky's.

They shouldn't ban arcade games for one woman complaining. If she doesn't like she doesn't have to take her kids to it. Easy as that. I see no reason to ban.

If Chuck E. Cheese makes a management decision on their own to ban arcade games, that's up to them.

One whackjob mother with a gambling fetish shouldn't decide for them. If she doesn't want her kids playing arcade games, she doesn't have to take them there.

Don't like it, and don't want your kid using it, then don't let them use it. Don't ruin something for everyone else. What's next? Banning the claw grabber machine? Why do parents nowadays expect everyone else to be the parent? Take some responsibility upon yourself for raising your children. Don't blame the Tv networks, or ad agencies when a show or commercial is on that you don't want your children to see. Blame yourself for allowing them to watch, what you deem filth. Don't blame the internet service providers for allowing things that fall under the category 'free speech' that are perfectly fine for adult use, when you should be monitoring your children's internet usage, and installing programs to block what you don't want them to see. Don't blame public places such as schools or fast food restaurants for not offering healthy alternatives. Blame yourself for not taking the time to make your kid a decent, healthy, homemade meal.

The claw grabber involves skill, so I don't think so.

Skill yes, as well as chance. Haven't you ever noticed, even if you get the claw dead center of any prize, sometimes it will grasp it and then just slide off? Well, even if you haven't noticed it, that happens, and it does so because it is programmed to only grab on hard enough to actually lift the prize every so often. So yeah, it's still a gamble, and not at all relying on skill alone.

On second thought, I agree you are right, it could be considered a game of chance. At least back when I was a kid, none of them were especially precise or effective, so it always came down to luck

A case of a mother who is so terrified to tell her child no to going to Chuck E. Cheese that she brings a lawsuit to change Chuck E. Cheese into the restaurant of her choice.
